    Truth. Good analysis.

Doesn't look like it to me. Maybe it's the clear 'natural' look they used? :D

Good lesson. Always look at everything possible to verify as best you can that all has been done you paid for. Easy way to do that is to ask the provider to 'show me what was done, I like to learn about my (whatever was worked on)'. This allows you to ask questions and not start by putting them in a defensive position.

It’s not the snow that causes excessive rust, it’s the areas that salt the roads that cause that cancerous kind of rust. California doesn’t use salt on mountain roads thankfully, we use cinder rocks instead (which are also better for all the lakes and streams). Salt helps to melt the ice quicker, but at the cost of eating everyone’s frames.

Looks exactly like my old tundra did using fluid flim once a year after having the truck the 3rd year. Being here in southern new england (salt city) where we have lots of rain that wash's fluid flim away after a few months, it sucks having to repeat that messy job. Surprised they didn't use a rust inhibiter like crc or cosmoline. I switched to that stuff on my new tacoma back in 2020 and its all still there except a couple tiny spots on the leafs.

Get it Krown rustproofed ASAP and keep on it yearly.

    problem solved.

I don't see any rustproofing on it in your pic....

I live in BC too. However in the Lower mainland region near Vancouver but away from the sea. My Truck just turned 2 years old 2 days ago. Mainly rain storms here with a few snow strorms and periods of salt spread on roads. I daily drive my truck to work 1 hour every day.

Here is what mine looks like with no protection at all. If I lived in the BC interior with the harsher weather I'd consider a rust inhibitor.

I need to go take some pictures of mine too, I did same thing had dealer waxoyl the truck, and it seems like they didn't do anything to it. Might go and ask for a refund. I did the oil change on it for the 15k and I thought it seemed like yours. Not as bad, but definitely some rust on the surface as well. I'ma go take some pictures right now.

Nope, mine actually looks good underneath, seems like they didn't spray anything else though. Any "moving" parts have surface rust on them, mine is a 21. Frame though is good. I'd clean yours up, and fluidfilm the heck out of it. Or bring it back to dealer and say "wtf?"

If the dealer used ff, woolwax, or waxoyl thats lanolin based, it could explain why. While more their environmental friendly it will wash away much easier in wet weather appearing like nothing was done until you reapply again.

The frame actually looks good, but I'll find out more after the winter, since I think I got it end of last year. I think. Otherwise some of the other stuff, like the control arms. Axle couplings have some rust on them. The leaf springs, had a little bit as well. Nothing like OP though, that's rough, and same year truck as mine.

More of a side note about your rear diff

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1-y-o-sweating-leaking-rear-diff.782485/

A member shared some docs for a TSB replacement for my truck. Was helpful and good to know. Frame looks great for two years old in the LMD

Yeah I noticed the 2 small areas of sweaty rear diff. Apparently a few sweat marks are ok as long as it's there are no active little drips. Did you have yours done?

    That's the thing with rustproofing.

They spray everything from frame, brake lines, suspension parts, differentials, u-joints, axles, drivetrain, drive shafts, ball joints, hood, inside your hood, engine compartment, doors, door frame, rocker panels, cab, box, spare tire rim and chain, you name it, it's protected. All that shit will last much longer and the things you don't want seizing up on you, won't as easily.

It's really a no brainer if you want to keep your truck a long time, or even if you don't, resale value is much higher.

Woolwax will wash away, not so much with waxoyl that's more permanent.

Idk, i've now seen both. Neither seem to be a great solution for rust long term here unless your one of those that don't mind keeping up with reapplying them. Myself being 70 now have had enough of that. I rather do it one time and have the stuff last a few years.

    1. The rust you see isn't the rust you need to worry about.
    2. Never take the dealer add-on protection. It's crap.
    3. Cosmoline.
