I thought about that after posting; 25 times each, for each 'combination' posted on this site. That's a lot of tries. Sorry it didn't start, then I'm sure you have heard that the remote start is 'free' the first year, thereafter requires a subscription, to Toyotas connected whatever it is called.

I was able to remote start my 2020 OR the first year, but installed the StartX thereafter and never had interruption of remote starting service. No I don't subscribe to Toyota connected service, ever.

For the most part, I love, 35% shorter is a good amount. A bit notchy, but I kind notchy. There's a hum , but you only hear it if you're listening for it. My biggest complaint is that once in gear, there's a ton of play so much so that if I had to do it over again, I'd probably give the Core short shifter a try and find a way to cover or black out the chrome on it.

For now I'll leave it in there.

It's on sale at the manufacturer website if anyone's looking.

Haha nope next on the list is alignment. Then it will be up on a rack and look at all the shocks and bushings. As far as I can tell everything looks really solid.

    Oh look, another mod....
Mine plugs directly into my rear view mirror. If you have a rear view with the built in garage/home link buttons, they make a dongle adapter that plugs directly in to it.

Guys, today was the day. I think I had been clicking too quickly and/or not holding the last click long enough. That video was the “key.”

You guys rock, and I feel like a goober. Could Toyota have made this any more secretive and convoluted?

They are, I tried to match the wheels but they are a little off. Going to powder coat the wheel black and the “beadlock ring” the bronze on the sliders

I believe '21 and up you don't need to pay for the remote start to still work. My free trial ended in July and my truck still starts with the fob. I can no longer use my phone, but that never worked right anyway.
The dealership told me it wouldn't work after the first year, even though somewhere Toyota's own press release stated otherwise.

While you have connected services you can also remote start it from the app. And that will work from further away. Glad the other poster put in the video using the fob to see the timing and number of presses.

Some don’t want to pay for the connected services so I’m glad it also works with the fob. Having remote services saves me $12 a month on my insurance for now so I’ll pay for it.

    Try this:https://dongar.tech/products/12pin-tacoma
It’s on my Christmas list. I wish there was a similar handy device for a rear cam. The mirror plug-in of course only works when the car is on.

This makes sense. The fob communicates with RF directly to the car but connected services uses the cellular network. Obviously it costs something to use the cellular network (AT&T in the US) so that can be turned off if you choose not to continue but the fob works the same. Just lots of confusion on this.
