I miss PA inspections for stuff like that, and checking tire wear. WA has nothing, ever.

Peeps don't care. I've seen both: them just staring blankly at me or just looking down at their phone.

The dolts running with just DRLs on at night are hopeless. About the best that can be done there is flashing the HBs as fast a possible from behind. LoL!

Yeah every once in a while, we'll get whiners here wanting backlit gauges when the lights are off. I've only seen one Taco driving at night with no lights, which is hitting way, way above the average.

My 20 yr old Acura with aftermarket HIDs goes through inspection with flying colors after he asks which parts I've replaced since my last visit (in this case it was front lower ball joints and rotors/calipers) and of course the 360 degree light inspection, horn, tire tread, parking brake test, etc. Of course being a car helps with lower beam pattern, but in a SUV/truck makes it worse.

I sort of remember older Acuras had projector low beams? If so, those retrofits are good in my book. Hell, today's LED arrays put out way more glare than OG projectors.

Are LED bulbs in turn signal or brake housings allowed? If not, that kind of sucks. I agree on that rule for headlights.

The DRL at night folk are indeed fully hopeless and clueless. To date I don’t think a single one I’ve flashed at has realized and fixed it.

As for the backlit dash, it’s funny you mention that. You’d think it would cause confusion, and clearly it does, but it shouldn’t. They make the dash super bright for daytime (when exterior lights are not on). They are bright enough to be painfully bright at night. How people can sit there and drive down the road with the dash lights that bright and not realizing something is wrong, is beyond me. For someone who isn’t clueless, the bright ass dash should be plenty of indication that the headlights aren’t on. Once you turn the lights on it drops to a far more tolerable level.

I've actually heard that folks have argued with cops believing that their lights were on.

You'd think that the extra brightness would be an easy clue, but I am also surprised by the number of folks that crank the brightness to max, effectively killing night vision.

In the end, driving skills and actual care is non-existent for most.

Yeah, and I’m sure if they did do a fully backlit Tacoma dash, we’d just start seeing more of them in the same situation. People are idiots, in general.

I’m one of the ones who turns the dash lights basically as low as they’ll go. I already don’t like the blue color, but in general with any dash color I want it about as dark as it can get without being off.

Front plates are required here in BC but half the vehicles here are from Alberta and they are not required to use front plate, kind of sucks

Oh yeah. I've had LED bulbs and MESO Total Tails since it was new. SOME inspectors let you get away with throwing LEDs into the Tacoma projectors, some will fail it. Best bet is to just swap the halogens back in.

It used to be tougher. When I moved here a few years ago you had to remove or place covers on any off-road lights or light bars. Now, you can have them as long as they aren't wired in with the regular headlights.
