Baja Designs strives to be a leader in the off-road industry by making the best lights on the market, and we have done that through rigorous real-world testing and back that up with countless wins in off-road racing. In an effort to continue that innovation, we are pleased to announce the Next Generation Baja Designs Squadron SAE coming in January 2023. We have taken what we have learned over the years and applied new technology to bring a light that is Brighter, Bolder, and Better.

Our Squadron is known for being one of the most popular lights we have to offer, and it is no secret the performance is incredible. When we launched the Squadron SAE, we were excited about the performance, but we knew we wanted more. So our engineers returned to the drawing board to re-engineer the light that not only meets SAE regulations but outperforms the competition giving the best performance possible while being road legal.

Current backorders of our SAE Squadron from September 2022 will start to ship in January 2023 with the Next Generation of the SAE Squadron. For all existing customers who have purchased a Baja Designs SAE Squadron, we will upgrade them with our Next Generation SAE Squadrons. For further details reach out to info@bajadesigns.com.

If you want to learn more about the new Squadron SAE, check back in January.

I think what everyone here will want to know is how do they compare to the Diode Dynamics fog lights? I have BD lights all over my truck but went with DD for the fogs.

Hey @AtomAnt, we aimed to develop the best competitive light with all aftermarket SAE lights on the market and believe this new Squadron SAE will be right up there with the others. Stay tuned for more information as it is released.

Send some to me! I’ll give an honest review. I have thousands of dollars of Baja Designs lights on my rig, but the one thing I swapped out was the Squadron SAE fogs. I wanted to like them but the Diode Dynamics were far superior. I’d love to go back to a BD fog light setup if it compares favorably. Seriously, I’d love to review them for you. I don’t have all the fancy testing equipment crashnburn has, but it’ll be an honest review.

As much as I wish I could send you all lights to test, unfortunately, I cannot. When these lights are released feel free to reach out to me directly and we can work on an order for you guys.

I'm wondering if the old "SAE compliant" lights were not really SAE compliant?

The older version was still SAE compliant with the lens insert that was designed for the lens. This version will update the internals from this style light.

My understanding is BD's first "compliant" light, years ago, was not compliant. They updated with a lense like the below (notice the black insert with narrow slits for proper cutoff). You can see a similar setup in their latest design above. Looks like they've designed a better "slit" as it's not just a rectangle anymore. I'm sure it's an improvement, but only time will tell. Love my BD lights, but I'm not running any SAE.

With January of ‘23 right around the corner, are there any additional “pre-release” data points that @Baja Designs can share with us here at Tacoma World? Being on the waitlist to get these for my truck, it would be nice to start getting a better understanding of the next gen products. Thanks!

With the release of the new SAE right around the corner, Baja Designs will be holding off releasing any information on this light until the release date of mid-January. Once it is released we will be giving full specs, pricing, and all part numbers associated with this new version. I wish I could give you guys some pre-released information on the light.

I've requested advanced units from BD for the SAE thread for independent testing, but BD so far has declined to respond to the request.

No, it was not. The lens insert helped reduce light spill while also reducing output, but the lamp still failed on gradient. It has been called out excessively in the lighting community. If you desire test failure examples, I'm happy to provide them.

Due to unforeseen issues, the release date for the new Squadron SAE has been pushed back to mid-February.

Wow, ok. That’s disappointing. When was this determined? Can you divulge the nature of the issues?
