When I did diffs, I found that a 5 gallon bucket worked great for draining into. Fit well under there when up on 4 ramps.

Man, having all the right tools makes a world of difference. Valvomax to drain the oil, screw in drain with tube for the canister, canister wrench, oil funnel that screws in so it can't tip and has a high oil flow, kit with all the sockets I could've ever need with nice right ratchets, another kit so that I can use a ratchet with allens instead of having use an allen wrench. Also the squeezable gear oil pouches are brilliant.

Definitely a good idea but our trusty old drain pan did the job :D

I was watching this video at lunch today https://youtu.be/Kd7Yuisq7dE and look who made a cameo, our very own @wi_taco. Screenshot_20221031-131754.jpg

That brings me to another point. Who do you guys usually watch on the Ou-Tube (minor flashback to Salma Hayek pronouncing Utah as Ou-tah in Wild Wild West). Currently Overland Underbudget has me seriously considering flatbedding the truck :pccoffee:

Wow, that's wild...I guess all my forum posting while I diligently avoid doing my day job has paid off? See even Chloe knows silver Tacomas are best hahaha!!

I don't watch any Tacoma channels per se. No offense to them, just not my jam. Most YouTubers are shills or annoying wankers nowadays. Based on thumbnail images alone I'd like to punch that Rob guy LOL. I 100% do NOT support that one BEAST channel because they defaced public lands. I boycott Amazon because I'm pro-labor rights so Tuber affiliate links do me no good.

I do subscribe to 4WD247 because it's fun to watch the Aussies rip it up in $100K+ dream rigs without doing it myself and destroying my own truck. Lots of good ideas to spend money on that channel. Hide your credit card.

Flatbedding, to me, is either totally awesome or completely not awesome depending if it fits your lifestyle or not.

Remember us when you're famous @wi_taco

For truck related stuff on the youtubes, I've enjoyed Ronny Dahl, Dirt Lifestyle, Fab Rats, and 4xoverland.

With the last one, despite mixed feelings on overland marketing here in the states, there's a wealth of information about truly remote off road travel.

I also forgot about Dirt Lifestyle and 4xO. Those are pretty good too. Fab Rats is okay but moves too slow for me, and I don't really care for any of the others affiliated with Matt's Recovery. Used to be okay, just bleh after awhile.

Edit: I was thinking of Expedition Overland (XO) and mis-spoke, I've never seen 4xoverland but looks interesting.

For sure. I enjoy the slower pace and the level of fabrication knowledge. I don't have a ton of spare time to go through the channels, but will rotate through them.

But that's the beauty of information nowadays - there's something for everyone.

Ronnie Dahl is good. Entertaining without being a chub. Good advice too.

Matt's Recovery is so chock full of rookie mistakes it's a miracle they haven't been yanked and canned. Those guys are flat out dangerous.

Just watched Dirt Lifestyle do the Ultimate Adventure stuff. Pretty nuts compared to anything I've seen. Makes Tigerton look like kiddie pool.

Well keep in mind that's among the most challenging thing you can do, usually reserved for a highly modified 4x4 or buggy on 40s or more; cages are a requirement.

That said, it's cool to see what's possible and there are takeaways for what you intend to do, even it's just going to a campsite.

On the other end of the spectrum I've been chipping away at Expedition Overland's early Alaska stuff. Seems more our pace and what I'd ultimately like to get into. Definitely enjoy the history nuggets here and there.

    Alaska is definitely worthwhile.

I've seen some of their videos and they're super polished, but also focused on gear, in part due to sponsorships.

That's where people can get into trouble, in my opinion, thinking that they need so much stuff to simply go camping or enjoy light/moderate trails. Like you said, though, other end of the spectrum.

From what I’ve seen on their videos, I think most of the guys in our group could handle even the vast majority of their South American trip with relative ease.
