Unless you had a beverage you wanted to travel with or an LCD you needed to read... :)

LOL, I don't consume beverages when I drive, and oddly enough, my LCD displays never failed.

Depends what qc is instructed to look for. You can't fault something getting by qc if the components meet all the specs. that it was designed and manufactured as. It would be an engineering issue, or a cost saving one the bean counters wanted.

Tacomas have been built in Mexico since the very early 2000s. Even first Gens. Toyota factories all use the same robots and procedures from Mexico to Japan. This is why they have such an excellent reputation. There really isn't a difference. I think people get on a high horse and want their vehicles to be better since it was built in the US. Major components like drive train were still manufactured in Japan or the US.

    It's a myth.

Any fit and finish issues you find are due to lack of supervision or one off mishap at a given time and aren't a reflection of the entirety of production.

My Mexico assembled truck has straight lines and is virtually flawless throughout. I couldn't expect better from Toyota.

It is also baked into your VIN number; third position will either be a Y (Guanajuato) or M (Tijuana).

The biggest deal with me quality being equal at all plants, i'd still prefer having my hard earned money stay in the u.s. as much as possible. I'd rather support our u.s. workers then send jobs south.

I think all First Gens were assembled at NUMMI. However if memory serves me, they did start making the truck beds in Mexico at the time.

Both of my 2004s were assembled in Baja California, Mexico. Prerunner and TRD Off Road.

My new Tacoma is made in Mexico, so should I not eat the colorful little hard candies that I found in my truck?

Yeah, nothing like eating a bunch of those rainbow colored fentanyl candies. You'll probably never eat another makers candy.

I can see more issues coming from a San Antonio plant. Higher wages means people more controlled labor costs. Starting pay in SA is what like 16 bucks? I'd be curious to see what they make in Mexico. Also luchesse boots has a factory in El Paso and 99% of the warehouse workers live in Juarez, Mexico. Getting Texas pay and living on Mexico cost. Win win they get to pay less than they would an American and they make more than they would at a maquilador in Juarez. I wouldn't put San Antonio too far off or any other factory job near a border for that matter.

I have a Mexican built 3rd gen off-road and I have seen/heard some issues. Here is the list…

    1. Blotchy paint (MGM Color) (Dealer is aware of it and made documentation)
    2. Rear Bumper Fitment/Gaps
    3. Grille surround has imperfections (warping) not really noticeable but I know its there.
    4. Right A-Pillar rattle (fixed myself)
    5. Left door window switch rattle (fixed myself)
    6. Cluster plexiglass cracked (fixed under warranty)
    7. Drivetrain vibration from 0-30 under hard acceleration.
    8. Suspension clunk over speedbumps.
    9. Squealing during acceleration that comes and goes.

Compared to my 2012 Tacoma my 2018 feels inferior in terms of build quality.
