    Replacement of entire decking is happening. Depending on what I find below, rafters may be replaced as well. It's a little spongy, so it may only be 2x4 or 2x6 rafters. Will see today after work.

    I can't answer why they did that back in the day, but what I can say is that after today, none of that will be an issue.

    Thanks again to everyone who gave input regarding baseboard clearance over carpet. The install was delayed by a week, I just left the baseboards as is with no gap under them. The installers didnt even mention it and got it all done within a couple hours. We did everything but the carpet in this room. Of course it took much longer than planned but very happy with the results.
