Tire shop said they can't mount 265 Duratracs onto SR8's -- sounds like bs?

I got a set of SR8's and ordered a set of 265/75/16 load range C Duratracs to put on them (will eventually get 33's when I get lift installed on new truck).

The tire shop said they can't mount LT tires onto the SR8's because they will damage the wheels, because the tires are too stiff for the wheels and truck. It sounds like a whole load of horseshit to me, I've been running both load C 265 Duratracs and Load E 285 Duratracs on my 2nd gen for the past 12 years.

Just want to verify that there isn't something particular to SR8's that would cause them to be damaged by mounting tires, before I go and insist to the tire shop to do something ill-advised. So - am I missing something? Or is this tire shop being stupidly cautious?

They don't trust their staff to use their inadequate equipment correctly.

Thus they don't want to buy you new wheels when your pretty ones get buggered.

I wouldn't want them to touch my wheels either.
    Find a new shop.

Thanks all for the feedback, and thanks Vin for chiming in - I got a reply from Vuth as well who also confirmed what you and everyone else here is saying.

I called the tire shop again and, as Clearwater Bill suggested, the guy was upfront in telling me that they don't have the right equipment at their shop to stretch those tires onto the wheels. Which is better than them not fessing up and trying to send it with the wrong equipment.

    How wide is the rim?
Those tires have a 7"-8" rim width range.

this is probably it. I have been turned away by multiple shops when I got my tires mounted on my Gen 5’s and 10’s. They openly said every time “we will damage your rims so we won’t mount them for you”.

I appreciated their honesty though rather than damaging my rims. Just find a competent shop.

Load range C is almost at par with standard load tires haha. How can it have anymore force.

They don't want your business, they sound stupid anyway.

That wheel has a wide outer flange faux beadlock...
Wouldn't you have to reverse mount them? Also looks like drop center is toward the outside...probably compounds mounting difficulty? Especially if the shop is not equipped.

Maybe, reverse mounting is interesting as it usually has the lowest risk of damaging a rim, I actually prefer it. Any machine from the last 30 years can do it.

    Just an odd scenario.
