I'm looking for a little help....

I did my best to search the forum, but I couldn't find anything that helps me with this.

I notice a rattle or possibly a clicking that starts when I pass 3k RPM. It immediately goes away when I drop below 3k. I have a manual tranny. It seems to happen in all gears.

I have 77k on my truck. The rattle/click started right after I changed my spark plugs. I followed the method posted on this forum that allows you to sneak out the plugs without having to remove the intake manifold.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-tacoma-spark-plug-replacement.554468/

Does anybody know if there is something that I could have done when I replaced the spark plugs that would cause the engine to be clicking? I'm hoping it's just a rattle that I will eventually find.

Remove any vacuum lines when changing out the plugs?

Yes, but they have been reconnected and clamped. I double checked.

I was as careful as I could be, but I'm sure there's a chance that dirt could have got in. Is there something that you had in mind that could be clicking if dirt got in?

Update.... the rattle / clicking kicks in when I am 3k+ RPM AND somewhere around half throttle or more. If I back off the throttle the click/rattle goes away, even if I am over 3k RPM.

    Any ideas?

Could be pre-ignition....or...it's a resonance vibration from something at that rpm.
If it's caused by resonance, it could be anything.

I have the same noise sounds like it's a manual issue. I'm starting to think it's the spring clock behind the steering wheel. It's similar to an ABS noise but much more quiet. Any luck?

I seem to be having the same issue, have been experiencing intermittently for a few months now. 3k rpms and above seems to be the sweet spot.

I was hoping it was an ignition issue so I changed my plugs for the second time at 125k miles but still present after the swap.

V6 Auto, so doesn't seem to be only a manual trans issue.

    OP, are you still around?!

Hey guys I’m another auto here with the same problem. I have a 03 pre runner at 297k it’s a one owner and always kept up on. As far as I remember it just started happening. At 3k she starts ringing and stops when you stop accelerating. Any info found yet?
