Who uses this combo, iPad or iPhone (cause that's what I have) paired to an In-Reach mini for off highway travel? If you do, help me set mine up, please!

I just did this a couple weeks ago. I dont think I could ever tell you how to do it. It was pretty terrible and I had to try multiple times in different order. Garmin's "instructions" were conflicting and terrible. One place says one thing, another says some thing else, the booklet says yet something different. Their products are good, instructions terrible. There is another member on here who uses one and has made awesome track maps and route planning. Maybe he could give us all a tutorial some day. Good luck. I am still not confident with the messaging yet...

    Which In-reach?

Edit: Pending which device you will need to download the Garmin Earthmate app, or the Garmin Explore app. You can download the map areas from there. Once downloaded and paired.. live tracking will be seen. from there you add in waypoints, or create them before you leave the house.

I use this exact setup. InReach Mini paired to either an ipad or google phone. I have the Earthmate app installed on both, but rarely use it. I use GaiaGPS for all my navigation. I have all the GaiaGPS maps downloaded for offline use and when the InReach is paired, it accurately shows my location in the GaiaGPS app on either the ipad or my phone. I never had any issues getting them all to work together.

I've thought about getting a bolt on GPS antenna, but the InReach works fantastic and is easy to take along with me when I leave the truck for a hike/bike trip.

I am able to download maps thur the "Garmin Explore" maps, and I see the blue pointer but its doesnt move as I move or follow the road. It just shows me a straight line from point to point. Garmin pic.jpg

I am pretty sure the Earthmate app only shows a line between points that match the tracking interval that you set on the device. The blue arrow should always be exactly where you are located, but the line only updates based on your tracking interval. If I am driving and I have a way to keep it powered, I'll set the interval to the minimum. If I'm hiking or otherwise not able to keep it powered for longer duration, I'll set the interval to longer times.

I also use the Gaia app for all my hiking and offroading. Just download the maps directly to your device you're good to go offline
