I just got my new truck Thursday, and in true fashion I put an early scratch on it! To make things even better I decided to use Turtle Wax Scratch Repair and Renew. When I got done the area around the scratch is now a lighter color. GEEZ!! Did I actually remove the clear coat? I need some opinions. At this point, all I know to do is take it to a body shop. Thanks in advance.

Need better pic. Can you feel the scratch with your fingernail? Is it a chip in the paint? If you wet your finger and wipe over the scratch does it go away and come back after it dries? Lot of times if its a slight scratch you need to wet sand it slight;y because if you don't your just polishing the scratch more.

It is not the scratch that I am necessarily worried about, it is the area around the scratch that has became a lighter color. Did I do some kind of clear coat damage?

I seriously doubt you rubbed the paint off by hand unless you used a high speed buffer.

    Form follows function
Detail the rest of the truck to match. Doesn’t look like it was damaged. Looks buffed. Is the spot smoother/shinier?

    Sucks OP

I remember my first one. Then the hundreds to follow.

Kind of sucks hand washing because every time I feel like I find a new scuff or crud somewhere, especially on black.

I circled the area around the light spot in case people couldn’t tell what I was talking about.

Some of those scratch remover products are pretty abrasive.
Your scratch looks below clear coat.
Buff and blend then keep it protected.
