Went to DT to try on some 285/75/16 to see if I needed to do a cmc before getting new tires. The ones they had available to try on were the ko2. Not really any rub just in full lock against mud flaps. I was pretty set on the geolander M/T but driving an hour everyday to and from work the manager said they wouldn't be a good fit. So next was the nitto ridge the weights were way above the others I was looking at.
Mickey Thomoson is up next with baja boss at $307 right under 33" and I think at about 67lbs.
My dilemma lies im yes I'll be driving an hour (highway) to and from work everyday but will be offloading my days off 2 a week or taking trips up to Ruidoso, cloud croft, etc. Am I missing any potention winners here? For $305 a tire and at3s being like 266 that quite a difference for 5 tires.

Well I may have figured this dilemma out. I was about to pass on the nittos because discount tire said 73 lbs yikes. After looking in nittos site they're only 61.66

73#!!!! HOLY MOLY I never knew they weighed that much.

Don't do M/T's for that much driving every day.

KO2's would probably be fine and give more of an aggressive sidewall look.

Toyo AT3's are a solid choice, but like Falken AT3W's they look a little "tame" if that matters.

Do yourself a favour and get a second set of wheels and some p rated 245's for commuting. Someone is probably selling some on stock alloys for $2-300. Not sure how much gas is where you are, but they'l pay for themselves in a year. Why waste good rubber, lose acceleration, mileage, create more noise and wear on suspension commuting on A/T's or M/T's? Takes under 20 minutes to swap wheels.

I would take the Nittos over BFG anyway. IMO nitro makes a better tire that lasts longer and performs just as well on highway as it does off road. Just my experiences. I also live in Arizona and have seen the ko2s wear down quick. The terra grapplers are a solid choice for what you’re talking about. Not the most aggressive sidewall, but available in your size, affordable, great on road (I have the same tires and a similar commute) and handle well off road seeing as it’s an E rated tire. I’ve aired mine down to 18psi on my stock wheels with no issue

We have similar terrain so I'm on board with you. Not a fan of the ko2 but for the test fit it was either that or a cooper. The guy was trying to out me on some nitto recons but they don't have the size I needed available yet

The Terra’s are a great, affordable, abusable tire.

best side wall pic I’ve got. Like I said, not the most aggressive but still a good tire. I love them

edit: when I go to 35s I’ll be getting the same tire

I had Ridge Grapplers for about 15k miles and they cupped or feathered, what ever the proper term. They got pretty noisy and I balanced them often and aligned the truck far too many times in that year. Just my experience. I had the E rated too. Not sure why they wore bad like that but It made them super loud. A friend put on the Toyo AT3’s and said for daily driving they were fantastic. C rated I believe.
