I’m putting in a new front catalytic converter. I’ve tightened up everything about as good ‘n tight as I get them. My original setup had a little gap in the same place as the 1st pic. Didn’t seem as big though. I imagine this happens due to mating the original with the new. Question is, is this going to be ok? Wish I had put on more rtv. I usually overdo it, however have been trying to get out of that habit.

You shouldn't have to use hi temp rtv. Just make sure you're using a new gasket. It's normal to have a gap.

Any space should just be the gasket between the 2 flanges .

Did you get all the old gasket off?? Correct gasket for that location they are not all the same

Yup. Got all the old gasket off. The gasket certainly seemed to fit right.

It is not so much the fit it is the make up of the material of the gasket .

using the wrong one they fall apart then you have leaks tripping a PO420 code.

Walker Exhaust used to have a great online catalog it used to show every part with the walker # when you entered your vehicle data .

Now the online catalog is completely different or i can not find what I was looking for.

I purchased it from Toyota. When I did the exhaust manifold crossover gaskets a TW member advised me to get this other gasket just in case I had to have more wiggle room.

By “any space should just be the gasket between the 2 flanges”, are you also stating, as 02hilux did, that gaps are, or could be, normal, so long as the gasket is sandwiched in? (Struggled with the wording there.)

So when I did the front (new) cat to the rear (new) cat the same thing happened, there’s a gap. I’m afraid if I tighten any more I’ll start warping the flanges.
Same thing here? This gap is normal?

two flanges the gasket in the middle

    just like the front.

just snug the bolts when you get crazy things bend and then never seal.

I am sure my snug and yours might be many foot pounds different.

I hope I didn’t overdo it on the cat to manifold one. I was using a pipe.
After doing the crossover it’d never have occurred to me that a gap could, or is, normal.
