In regard to the free oil changes, on my previous 2 vehicles (Mazda and Ford), I’ve never had a problem getting the service department to pass along a RO to the parts department to just give me the oil and filter for free so I could do the work myself instead of their techs. They’ve always thought it was odd, but would still give me no trouble.

I just tried to do that with 2 Toyota dealerships and they are telling me their techs have to do the work. Has anyone ever done this?

I figured I would take advantage of it if I could get it for free (but I do not want them touching my truck). Otherwise I’ll just pay for my own oil and still do it myself.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
Then submit a parts request for your filter(always go with OEM filter) and buy some oil because they ain’t giving you shit. Cheers!

Edit: if it wasn’t clear you will be paying out of pocket for everything lol

I've never heard of dealerships doing that and never thought to ask either

Yeah, nah. Why would they miss a chance to upsell you on something else like wipers or air filters? I'll spend the $7 on the filter and $20+ on oil and take care of it. Never ended up using my 2 free changes either... whoops.

Nope, its not part of the contract.

No Toyota dealer is going to give you the oil filter.

More like closer to $30 but I get a 5 qt jug for $24 or so and an extra qt for $6.99 of Mobil 1 at Walmart. Sometimes Costco has a 6qt case for $31 on sale.

I never bother with the .2… I let it drain out while changing the filter and rotating the tires, when I put 6 back in it’s always 3/4 or so up the range on the dipstick which is perfectly fine.

Hmmmm, my truck is under warranty so can I ask for a engine or transmission so I can do the work myself?

Most recent Pennzoil Platinum was get $25 back on purchase of 2. I track Amazon prices and got 2 - 5qt jugs for $18.68. Even if I get a $7 quart extra to make the 6qts needed (I also don't bother with the .2), that's right around $20 for each change for just oil. I look at rebates and start tracking sales using 3 camels site when I'm coming up on a change and Bob's you auntie.

From my experience having a prius and now a tacoma under toyotacare, if you don't take advantage of it from a dealer, your totally on your own having to buy your oil and filter and what ever tools needed for the job. Fortunately we have very good dealers in my area that i had them do my 2 oil changes. My wife continued the oil change with them only to find out the bill was over $250. They installed new wiper blades, cabin air filter, and checked other stuff. Just the oil change was $80 at the time that was years ago. Last i checked an oil change for my truck was $130. I can do it less than 1/2 that, and i don't have to drive 27 miles to have it done.
