I recently upgraded my tires to 285/70/17 KO2's and some pro comp 69 wheels. After a couple trips I realized I should probably have a full-size spare, just in case. My questions:

Can I fit the spare tire (285/70/17) in the same spot the stock spare is?

Would you recommend getting the same tire (KO2)? Or something cheaper to be used temporarily?

What wheel would you recommend, I'm assuming i don't need to purchase another Pro Comp 69, just another 17" that's cheap

I still have the stock 16" spare under the bed, I'm assuming I can't use that in an emergency, given I have 17" tires on now, right???

    Thanks everyone

    - still a noob

Yes, you can fit a 285/70/17 underneath the bed in the original spot but you will need to do two things:

    1) You will need to hammer the two large tabs that come down on each side to push them up and out of the way.
    2) You will want to take the 4 bolts off that hold the tire winch onto the frame and slide the winch back toward the rear bumper so that the rear bolt holes become the front bolt holes (There is info on these forums on how to do this.)

I'm personally a fan of 5 tire rotations so I have 5 matching KO2's and RR7 wheels that I rotate through. I don't put my spare under the truck because it's just extra weight to lug around, it stays in my garage unless we are going on a long trip.

This exactly. I'm runing that size under the truck with no issues after doing these things.

Unlike aleriance I like keeping mine under the truck on a heavier wheel, the rear end needs some weight to ride smooth and every bit helps.
