Just picked up this little 96 with 156k. Paid $3,000 for it. Older gentleman who's a teacher at the local elementary school.Exactly what I need for branching off and making my own business. It's not pretty on the outside but the previous owner did give me a load of service records including ones for a new valve cover gasket, new radiator, 02 sensors, brand new tires, battery, new tail light and a bunch of other stuff.

I just bought a complete tune up yesterday. All the liquids, trans fluid, oil and filter, distributer wires, spark plugs, and engine air filter. I plan on touching up the paint myself with clear coat and respraying the hood. Rear bumper will most likely be replaced. Frame looks great for its age and that will be coated as well.

My question for those who own the 2RZ-FE engine, is there anything else I should be aware of? I know these little engines will run forever but I just want to make sure the maintenance is at the top of it's game.

I just bought the same truck with 217000 miles and yours sounds like it been taken care of better than mine. You are on the right track. Mine needs new exhaust manifold and gasket, sounds like a bear growling st me. AE60DFAE-6D54-479C-9FA3-4BBFC62BD7A8.jpg

Mine needs a new exhaust too but it'll be fine for now. I had to do ball joints on it as well. I've been driving it a lot. My dad had one that had 400k on it. I think we've got a long way to go. Just something cool about driving these little trucks around.

I drove a 97 2.4 manual for 20 years and 250000 miles and know how dependable they are.

Still haven't clear coated the truck yet but last fall I resprayed the hood. Waiting for a little warmer temp to do the rest. Been running it good for work. Thing hauls weight with no issues.
