For the younger guys there were several Billy Jack movies from the late 1960's into the early 70's They have become cult classics.

Billy was a native American who had just returned from Vietnam where he was in Special Forces. He just wanted to be left alone, but always seemed to find himself battling against corrupt local government officials or motorcycle gangs who were abusing local peace-loving native Americans and hippies.

This was before Steven Segal and Chuck Norris. And filmed without the aid of modern special effects. Billy was a bad ass. A clip from one movie.

There was a guy I went to high school with who showed up wearing a black T-shirt one day and everyone started calling him Billy Jack. He was a lot like the character. Great athlete who starred in football, basketball and baseball. He held just about every school record in baseball until his son broke them in the 1990's.

I saw him intervene several times and stop bullies from messing with nerds. No one ever challenged him, all he had to do was tell bullies to back down and they did. He wasn't tall, only about 5'8", but was athletic and no one wanted to find out how well he could fight.

Just watched Born Losers, the first of the Billy Jack movies. That and Billy Jack are on Roku via the Movieland TV app. I had never seen Born Losers. It had some B acting but it was an entertaining movie. The CJ5 driven by Billy and the Yamaha 250 ridden by Vickie are pretty cool to see. The fight scenes are lousy compared to what was to come in Billy Jack.

Elizabeth James, who played Vickie, got better as the movie progressed. She was a little hottie. Too bad she wasn't in more roles after this flick. She played the dispatcher in Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, a car cult movie.
