My 2018 Tacoma runs fine until I try and pass someone. Once at high rpm, the engine will throw a code and go into limp mode. The weird thing is once I immediately shut down the engine and start it back up. it’s back to normal and runs great. The problem is intermittent and doesn’t happen every time. Has anyone had this issue and know any way to fix it, I’ve replaced all the coils all the spark plugs fuel pump and tightened and inspected all the hoses. I’m at a loss.

I don't know much but I'd start with buying or borrowing a code reader to get the code... Or gun it into an auto zone so it throws the code right as you pull in :D

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

Sounds like you need to go for a drive with a scanner that shows what is happening in real time and records it.

Did you install OEM spark plugs & coils?
    Change fuel brands or grade?

Subbed for curiosity, please keep us informed.

Yes all Toyota genuine parts, and I’ve been using 91 grade fuel. So now the check engine lights are staying on. That’s a first! We will see tomorrow after I get it to the shop.

Maybe the CPS? I'm not sure what codes that failure might throw but it's a known issue for these trucks that'll randomly put you in limp mode

Thank you! That’s what I was thinking! But it’s not throwing the CPS code. Does anyone know or had this happen to there truck? A CPS failure that threw a P0300 random multiple misfire code. It’s a 130 dollar part. Probably save me lots of money if I just get the part and see what happens? It’s 180 for the shop to do an hour of diagnostic.

It’s got a brand new Injen intake system so that can’t be it and the cap is tight. Could it possibly be to much air and not enough fuel. With the new air system?

If the issue started shortly after the intake mod I would begin by reversing that back to stock and seeing what happens

No I wish. It’s started just before the intake.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Fuel pump. Exactly how mine acted. When I got it to the dealer, it had 8 psi. Tech couldn't believe it ran. There is a recall for 17's and early 18's IIRC.

edit: Re-read OP, you replaced the fuel pump? Check for blockage/flow.

That’s how it all started and it’s still acting up with the new fuel pump.

Have the dealer check the fuel pump again.

Copy that! Will do. Who knows it could have been a bad part. Good call.

Toyota is doing a compression and bleed down test on cylinders 1,3,5 because they narrowed it down to those particular cylinders. Weird it’s only that side of the motor. Still praying it’s nothing serious.
