P0446 code in my 97 4banger

got this p0446 code. I have read a couple threads, but where I’m confused is people say ther charcoal canister is on top of the tank some say its under the hood. So where should I start? I opened the gas cap and could hear the pressure coming out so its holding pressure. Also sometimes i hear this “buzzing” sound coming under the hood, was told its the evap system idk if that has anything to do with it

 

Somewhere around 03 the canister moved from the engine compartment to above the gas tank. So it will depend on the year, but if I am interrupting your truck info correctly, all three of your Tacoma's would have the canister in the engine bay.

There are few valves associated with the evaporator system, purge valve comes to mind, which might be causing the buzzing. The parts are increasingly harder to find.

 

So the canister is under my hood, says newer 1st gens had it on top of the gas tank. Ima place an order for a new oem gas cap as the one I have isnt oem. I will check the valves for cliks and check all my tube connections and spray soapy water at the canister, have seen where these have a crack in em.

The canisters can have internal issues as well. Mine had no externally visible indicators of a problem, but once replaced I was able to clear a code. That was 7-8 years ago or so- I don't recall what code it was.

The FSM should have pages for troubleshooting the purge valves and such.

 

so i checked my lines and they are all good, i ordered an oem gas cap, i sprayed soapy water around the canister and blew through the air hose and found the crack gonna apray some flex seal or remove and fix with jb weld.
