I applied to just where the scratches were. That color matched very well.

Magic erasers abrade the surface, they will lighten all the areas around the scratch.

Plastic has color all the way through. If the eraser remove to much the plastic will still have color.

With anything, Common sense will prevail. Even polish may work.

I do business with a factory that makes door panels for many. The injected molded plastic is very close to the actual color they are wanting. However plastic when being injected into a door panel can have slightly different hues. They paint them prior to assembly so they look the best. I was as surprised as anyone when I saw this being done.

When I worked at a Toyota dealership. They told that the manufacturer doesn't paint the plastic interior panels. Customers will used cleaners, brushes, protectants on plastic that will remove the paint or dye over time. If heat doesn't take care of it, They will use the plastic panel as parts. Places will buy them slightly defective.

By abrading the surface the magic eraser adds small scratches. These scratches will lighten the appearance of the surface regardless of the color being embedded in the plastic

Why detailers use eraser on leather?

Leather is a lot more delicate than plastic.

Erasers remove a very small amount of surface. It is made of melamine foam and a detergent. They abrade and what ever surface is the softest is what it will attack. Regardless the shoe cream worked great!

It isn't as simple as that, NOWHERE near as simple as that.

Thats like saying strength, hardness, and toughness are the same thing.

The shoe cream is a cover up. It will wear off eventually.

Interior's plastic is dull from the manufacturer. When the eraser abrade the plastic surface it does remove minor surface scratches. I seen detailers from dealership do it all the time. The plastic will look dull but with protectant added, It'll bring back the shine or sheen.

With all thing common sense plays a big role, plus knowing when to stop.
