Ok, revisit of the Widow Jane 10yr a couple weeks after opening and I am much more impressed. Very smooth but a good little burn at the finish.

Watching the season premiere of Yellowstone, they poured a Weller 12 then they ordered a round of Buffalo Trace. During a commercial break I saw a Buffalo Trace advertisement. That’s not gonna help availability.

I’ve been sipping the knob creek 9 year single barrel at 120 proof For $55 just can’t be beat. Strong vanilla notes but smooth.

Anyone seen Longmire? I watched it all over the last few months. Interesting mix of whiskey shown. A few episodes with Blanton’s, a whole season with Wyoming Whiskey (duh), and he saves a bottle of Lagavulin for special occasions. I presume all were paid advertising. Every other bottle shown being poured is nearly impossible to make out.

I watched that whole show when it was on and never really noticed the whiskey, now I kind of want to watch it over just to look for it. I always liked the fact that he drank Rainier, I like to think of it kind of like the Yuengling of the PNW.

Went to a wedding Friday night with a cash bar. 3 levels of scotch - $8 was something I never heard of and can't remember, $10 was J&B and $12 was Glenlivet. Can't say I was happy with the selection, but cost was on par with what a bar would charge. Ordered the Glenlivet and was very happy to get 3 fingers in a large glass. Like a water glass. Gave a decent tip and next round got 4 fingers. My other half was drinking vodka on ice and got the same generous pour, but one was enough for her. Now I'm sipping on Springbank 10, at a cost no doubt less than the Glenlivet.

It’s funny you say that about Rainier, I assumed it was a fake brand. I don’t know why, it just looked like the cheapest logo and can design in the history of beer. But maybe it’s refreshing!

Don’t get me wrong, I like Rainier beer, but it’s on par with PBR. Just a cheap refreshing beer that has been over hyped.

Oh 100%, it's a 6-pack of tall boys beer you pick up when heading over to a buddies to watch the game but it's my go-to if that's what I'm looking for.

The Yuengling comment really has more to do with it being the regional cheap beer than an actual comparison on flavor.

I do miss Yuengling, and always request my dad to pick some up when I’m back home. Maybe I’m the problem, but I always considered it to be a little more elevated than something like Rainier.

I once tried to make ground beef tacos with Yuengling, had run out of Pacifico. Yeah those went straight in the trash.

That had to be frustrating! I’ll throw a few back, but I haven’t used beer to cook with. Wine and whiskey is a different story. Latest was Maple Bourbon Butter syrup for French toast, and those went straight down the hatch!

The next time you make ground beef tacos, do a quick brown on the meat, add about a third of a can of your favorite Mexican beer, and an ounce of tequila. Simmer it on low till most of the liquid is gone, drain off the fat and remaining liquid but retain some to help mix in your seasoning.

    Super damn good and flavorful.

Like you I like cooking with bourbon too. Haven’t tried it in breakfast foods but it’s a great ingredient for a BBQ baste, for a steak marinade, in the slow cooker, in a sauce over any meat, a thousand other things…I like the sweeter tasting bourbons the most for cooking.

    I love cooking with bourbon.

Sometimes I even put it in the food.

I really like George Dickel, that's is my go to right now. Was introduced to it about 6 years ago and I like it better than JD. 90 proof and much smoother with a great taste.
