What were some of the things you liked?

 

I watched most of it on 2 X speed which I do with a lot of You Tube videos.

I liked the removeable bench vise. I use the front edge of my bench for waxing/tuning skis and a conventionally mounted vise would be in the way.

I currently have 2 benches so one has the vise and the other is clear.

I didn't like the low hanging light (in the way) with the safety glasses exposed underneath. Seems like the glasses would get dirty/dusty and would require cleaning each time you wanted to use them.

The foam in the drawers is nice but it wastes a LOT of space.

 

I am very jealous of a lot of the setups in this thread. I am humbled by my setup and what I have been able to accomplish. My first house, I had too small of a garage to fit my truck into but now, I have the space for it to fit as well as space to work and get things done.

It's not much, but, It works for me and it has been great.

 

Added some safety - I realized the garage was the place I was most likely to start a fire and was the furthest from a fire extinguisher.:

 

Nothing super exciting, but it's what I have. Still a lot of work to do, but finally starting to take shape. Got the itch back in October, here's what I've been able to knock out so far.

Took some pics and did some sketchovers to get a feel for the look and also have the fiance approve Direction:



The drywall everywhere is in terrible shape, so I opted to cover everything. I would have spent weeks/months working on it just trying to get the surface prepped to a point that was ready for paint. The ceiling was especially bad, whoever mudded the seams should be incarcerated. Ultimately decided on a tongue and groove ceiling and (faux) shiplap walls as we like the look.









Still a ton of work to do, but should be night and day vs. what it was.

 

First draft of my garage plans. Thoughts on space usage? The 2-post lift placement affects a lot of the design.

 

Nice. I’d keep the tractor under the awning and move the two post into that area, accessing from the newly enlarged 12 foot door. That way you wouldn’t have to walk around the tractor to get to the Mobile Shop Equipment.

Do you need the other 8’ door opposite it?

Any loft area? Water? Bathroom for that full on man cave experience?

I second moving the tractor. Having room to move around the lift can be the difference between a relaxed or frustrating repair. Move the lift farther back in the garage.

 

Nice set ups for sure. But if I showed you my work space ( no garage ) I'd probably get booted from TW. TOOOO many hobbies and too little room but my Taco takes me to all of them.

 

Bought first house last summer. No garage but made the most of an alcove in the finished basement.

Debating if I want a rolling toolbox/chest for under the bench. Since I don’t have a garage I have to set up and breakdown any outdoor project anyways, it seems more cumbersome. Currently have my mechanics socket set in the blue carry case bottom right, and can load up the wheeled box as well.

 

Great use of the space. I don't have a rolling tool cart that I use, but I do have one of the heavy duty plastic Harbor Freight tool carts. I throw everything I need on there and roll it around. Something like that may work better due to weight and if you have to carry it upstairs or outside, etc.

 

I moved my most used tools into a tool cart from harbor freight. 4 drawers and the top. I cut the legs to fit it under mine, and now I have a nice wheeled cart that I roll to where I'm working.

 

Dimensions? Looks like an ideal size

 

The layout and size looks great!
IMO, Pallet racking is considered storage and is likely not accessed frequently. I'd suggest putting it on the far side (furthest from walk in door) right side.
Slide mobile shop equipment to the left. that gives you more room for 2 post. (since you will likely drive nose in)
You will not like wiggling the tractor out perpendicular from behind a 2-post. or trying to turn 90 deg to get in the back garage door. Put in the awning.
It looks like the far bay is a project bay, Its easier to walk around a small truck all the time, rather than a large one. (hence why i suggested flipping them.)
My garage is a 32' square, id probably bump from 35' to 38' for future proofing.

From the layout, you didn't show the 4 most critical features:
1) Fridge
2) TV
3) Stools/ couch
4) Air compressor

 

Just straightened up my garage/ shop space. Need to build some wall cabinets to hide some of the clutter. Mobil bases for the tools allow me to make room for my wife to still park inside.

 

He’s got some good ideas for sure. My shop has to do everything from woodworking, motorcycle maintenance, truck maintenance, home improvement, DIY miscellaneous.
I’d love to have a larger shop, but for now, all my woodworking tools are on casters so they can be pushed in the back when not in use. The main area of my shop houses my FJR and my tool chests. I’ll move the FJR to the other side of the garage if I need extra workspace, or, depending on what it is, I’ll set up my work table on the “non shop” side.
While I like seeing “dream shops” I know that I’ll most likely never have that space, at least in our current house. So I’ll take bits and pieces of organizational videos to incorporate into my shop.
