I have mine on my driveway. The majority of the weight is back there anyway so no need for stakes. If you want it more stable, less wobble when inside, I stacked some pallets with a tire underneath. Also added some casters to it so when it’s time to load I can raise it up a few inches and roll it out of the way. When resting on the pallets/tire and the stand, she’s barely budges. The jack stands are great and overbuilt for the Kimbo, but without something underneath to rest on there is some play.

I was more concerned about it tipping over if I get in the bed while it's on the ground. I planned on putting a pallet under the base, anchor the front (end of door), and put a stand like the one you showed me under the bed platform. I assumed without anchoring the front tipping over when getting into the bed was a certainty... I'm about 200 lbs. Maybe I'm underestimating the weight of the front end.

During the pickup, Kimbo will run you through everything. You definitely need a support if getting into the bed area with it off the truck. Don’t believe any other anchors will be necessary but you’ll be able to feel it out when you get it home. Exciting times ahead.

Another question for you all. We have lots of snow in Wyoming and I’ve been having a solid melt freeze cycle happen in my backyard. Getting some solid ice build up on my roof and during the day some of it melts and rolls down the rear of the Kimbo and freezes both my door and propane compartment solid. The main door has the metal ridge and rubber channel so it’s possible to open. But the propane door just freezes. Anyone have a gutter solution that might direct this melt freeze away from these two doors?

I remember getting some of that too last year. I believe this is similar to what Kimbo uses. A few different sizes available.

Below is a pic of some significant door ice freeze we had a couple winters ago when the melting snow off the roof froze around the door.
    IMG_6324.jpg IMG_6326.jpg

I've been meaning to get something on the Kimbo installed around the door and on the overhang to keep water from streaming off the roof and on my head when getting in and out of the truck but I fear it's too late in the season now. I was hoping to find an aluminum option but the rubber gutter would at least be a proof of concept before drilling any holes.

Planning on installing the new flooring this weekend finally, I'll post pix of when completed.

Just noticed that they installed those gutters on mine above the door @Profloundering. I didn’t have those same ice issues but did have it on the propane door. Notice the same water path the other day so will add the rubber gutter option to the cart next order. I may consider a strip down the side of the door that opens. May not like the esthetic thought.

A little winter prep tasks over the last few days. I'll be loading her up tomorrow for a little trip to Steamboat to see some friends.

    1. Tested out the diesel heater for about an hour with the year old fuel. Put some additive in just in case. Worked great, but may add some more vent holes to the back where it pulls in the inside air. I believe it was blowing over heat codes last time because of this. I had the door open this time and no issue for the full hour.

    2. Cleaned up a little inside, took the summer stuff out, and oiled the wood inside.

    3. Got the ski rack mounted on the ladder again. One of these days I'll get a welder and make my hitch rack.

    4. Not really a Kimbo task, but covered everything under the truck with Fluid Film for the winter.

    El Chepo manufactured by OfferUP...LOL

Got them for a song and had to rebuild them with all new hardware - they still are not perfect, they tend to have a graduated slant to the step as you ascend/descend but the price was right.

Great to see the gutter stuff in action - I was not convinced but it looks like it does a great job...gonna have to order some up because the rain has arrived.

Hey guys, I know it’s been discussed a bit but wanted to get some Kimbo camper owner’s inputs/experiences. I just got a 2023 Tacoma TRD off road and I’m picking up my Kimbo for full time living late December. Im a nurse and rock climber and will be living/working on the road for 2023 and I’m pressed for time so I want to get it right the first time.

I plan on dropping the Kimbo off the truck on occasion for a couple weeks here and there, and was wondering what suspension upgrades I should go with for this. I also will use my truck as a daily driver after my time living in the Kimbo ends. I figure I would want to go with airbags because they are versatile and can be adjusted for when the camper is on or off, but do any of you recommend adding leafs or upgrading to 5100 bilstien shocks? Like I said I’m new to this truck camper world and there is a lot of information out there about different options. I will be spending a lot of time in the mountains and off roading to get to remote spots, so anyrecommendations from personal experience is very much appreciate. Thanks a lot!

Good afternoon all, new member here but have been following this thread for a while. I am about ready to take the plunge on a Kimbo for my 2003 Tundra and have been contemplating making the flight out to Washington to see one first hand. @Voltron4x4 if you are still in the Denver area it would be great if we could arrange something for me to check yours out. I'm located up in Silverthorne, CO but make my way down to Denver quite often. Heck, i'd even toss in a case of your favorite beer for taking some time out of your day.

There's a ton of great info in this thread, thank you guys for being so active in here, a lot of my questions have been answered in detail.

I have the same truck and Kimbo themselves recommended these upgrades to me:
    E rated tires
    Additional leaf
    Airbags

For my own sake, I’m changing the suspension altogether in addition to the tires and bags to take the Kimbo overlanding. Good luck.

Toytec 2.5 with 2 inch lift, Dobinson leaf springs and bags as well. Already have the tires done. I’ll be full time like you but retired.
