    It’s not unheard of.

Don’t know why you made two threads for it though.

There are plenty of smart folks. @Woodrow F Call just had his leaking RMS changed. It is a 1-piece seal and will need the transmission removed. It’s not the end of the world although it is a pain.

It has oil coming out of what they're calling the upper oil pan shield it's a little plastic clip right above the oil pan between the transmission. If I crawl under the truck and have the wife hit the pedal I can see oil come out of that plastic shield...... In your opinion do you think that might be the main seal or hopefully something easier I can fix myself

If there is too much crankcase pressure it can cause the rear main seal to leak giving the impression that you have a failed rear min seal. I don't know about your case but it is worth looking into.

Not common. Not work you’d do at home. It’s difficult to remove and the transmission is heavy and awkward to remove.

I was looking at what it would take to pull the transmission out and that things huge and trying to line it back up without proper tools I wouldn't even try it maybe on my old Sonoma for Toyota RAV4 but the transmission on the Tacoma looks big

Mine had 120,000 miles when it started leaking. Cost $1100ish to repair.

As far as removing the transmission, they do have a transmission jack.... or you can use a floor jack to back the transmission out. I didn't do mine because I really just have too much on my plate right now. I'm about 900 miles away from my truck at the moment. I don't have a flat surface to safely work on my truck, but that will change soon.

Basically, oil was coming out of the bell housing of the transmission.
