For off roading I can understand not wanting a larger diameter wheel, but for us road warriors a larger diameter wheel associated with a slightly shorter sidewall equates to slightly snappier handling on the streets.

 

I drive like a grandpa so I’ll take the softer ride, better look (imo) and slightly better off-road capability for the very little I do.

 

Got it; I've long since reached Grandpa age (I'm closer to 70 than 60), but I still prefer a stiffer/snappier ride.

 

Running 33s on my 17-in wheels and it really does not feel like it's a larger wheel compared to the old 16s I had. Maybe part of. That's because these tires are much bigger than the factory tires they replaced, but still lol

 

Same…I’ve had both rims, never could tell any difference in handling. Ironically there are way more soft riding SL options in the 17” world than the 16” world anyways. I don’t think either is a bad option but I prefer 17” for sure.

 

Does Toyota make a 17x7.5 wheel?

 

I think that’s the sport wheel dimension?

I’m running 315/75/R16 MTs and I’ll be gearing and getting an Eaton e locker in next month. I’ll report back how it operates with that setup o7

spotty and a lack of Mt regear experience online made the choice not as straight forward as a/t regearing, but I wanted a noticeable difference over stock and the numbers seemed to pan out

 

Some folks, who aren’t familiar with the Tacoma trim levels, when they see the interior of my SR Utility Package, MT with the Clazzio leather seats, think it’s a high end, manual shift, exotic, sporty model. In my mind, they aren’t wrong ! I believe it is the stick shift that puts my truck into the exotic category; otherwise, it would just be a regular truck with fancy seat covers.


I do like how the interior looks, but the true joy of this truck is rowing through the gears.

Mine are all filthy from rain boots now. F’ing kids. Grr.

 

If I had a ton of extra cash I would look for a nice low mile 2.7 with the 5MT.

And ironically, they were relatively inexpensive when new.
My 2017 SR Utility Package, 4x4 MT was $24,000 new.

 

That's far cheaper than the $28,000 the dealer quoted me at the time.... And then they flat out refused to even pretend to attempt to get one.

 

Pretty good truck for the money.
