This is an FYI for anybody who runs into this. On my new 2020 at about 500 miles I started to get a medium rattle coming from behind the steering wheel slightly left. It would only happen when the engine was at 1000-1200rpms, so low speeds. It sounded like plastic rattling. Dealership took a look and it turned out to be the two pipes coming out of the heater core, where they come in thru the firewall. They have plastic around them and it would rattle against the pipe. Some well placed felt and issue resolved. The only reason I bring this up is that it took the tech a good amount of time to find the rattle and when he called Toyota Corp, they had never heard of this issue and had no solution. Figure this might help somebody out in the future.

    P.S. sorry no Pictures

Mine was in the passenger as well. I found it was coming from the dash, closer to the windshield. I wedged some felt down in the corner and now it's quiet as can be.

I don't have the dash rattle but I'm starting to hear rattling coming from my driver side door panel. Its worst when the music is on and the bass drops.

My 19 has it coming from that area. Sooner or later I'll find time to drop it of at the dealer.
    Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, but I believe that is the engine bay side, the rattle was coming from the other side of the firewall inside the cab.

The rattle on my 18 was from the passenger dash speaker cover.

Oh wow. Well this should be very interesting figuring out how to get inside the firewall. Wish I was in San Luis Obispo

Do you think flushing the heater core would help the rattle?

no clue, all I know is that those hoses vibrate slightly with the engine, on the 3rd gen they have plastic around them on the cab side that mine were rattling against.

THANK YOUUU for this thread holy crap. This has been bothering me since I picked up the truck two years ago and was just about to ask a mechanic to look at it. Here's a pic of the culprit, what it looks like inside the firewall. This can be accessed from below the steering wheel without removing any parts or paneling. I don't have any felt on hand at the moment but tested out applying pressure to it while the engine & heater were running and this is for sure where the rattle is coming from.
