I had that one a couple years ago. I paid $400 and sold it for $600 when I upgraded to an 8” Powermatic that I got a great deal on. The Jet never would stay in adjustment.

Thanks to those who chimed in, figured Id post a few pics of the process and final product. I ended up doing two coats of black deck stain on the outside, then two coats of Minwax Helmsman spar urethane - satin. It was a very time consuming process / project but I think it turned out well. Been through some rain storms and the water beaded off very nicely.

Drilled the top and bottom at the same time so everything lined up. Had to triple check myself to make sure nothing was mirrored or flipped upside down :D

Two coats of Helmsman on the inside as well for maximum weather proofing

Figured wood glue wouldn't stick to urethane so masked off the approx. locations
    20221002_160728.jpg

Stained and ready for the urethane
    20221006_121342.jpg

All done! Used three strap hinges for the door with very short 3/8" #8 screws. Even then had to grind the tips off so nothing stuck up into the floor of the box.

I unupholstered our shoe-rack storage bench, rebuilt its guts, and reupholstered it. The seat will not break through its cheap staples and weak glue now.

What passes for "quality" in $300 furniture is appalling.

As soon as the missus decides which pleather color she wants it to be next, I'll re-reupholster it to something that matches her new color scheme.

Soooooo...anytime between next week and 2030.

We have been on a quest to replace our couch with a solid, good quality piece that will last for a while, and we expect to pay a higher price for it. I completely agree with your appalling comment. We've gone to just about every local store, even boutique (expensive) places. We were in San Francisco for something and went to a few "nice" stores there. Same thing. We saw $5000 couches that felt like they came from IKEA. We suspended the search and decided we can live with the old one for a while.

Why do you guys think that is? When I first started out I bought cheap furniture cause thats what I could afford and I always told myself I'd buy quality when I could afford it, but once I could, it seemed like quality had disappeared! I wanted forever furniture and now I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on anything!

I think you can still find forever furniture, we just can't afford it.
