Ha, one would think…but no. Wife bought those, made one thing and now they seem to be for display purposes only

Picked this up today on an ABC clerk’s recommendation.

From an article about an award it won:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new-to-market wheated straight bourbon whiskey from Southern Distilling Company has triumphed on an international stage, taking top honors at the New York World Wine & Spirits Competition.

Southern Distilling Company’s Southern Star Paragon Cask Strength Single Barrel Wheated Straight Bourbon Whiskey was recognized as Best In Class (Best Single Barrel Bourbon Up to 10 Years) and Best Overall Bourbon out of a field of more than 650 spirits.

REALLY enjoying it. Not a lot of barrel strength wheated bourbons out there. Rebel, what else? Can’t think of much.

"Southern Star Paragon Cask Strength Single Barrel Wheated Straight Bourbon Whiskey"... Easy for you say! Or, SSPCSSBWSBBW for short. I was going to add some vowels to make it a pronouncable acronym, but I just don't have it in me.

Thinking about trying to find Weller 12 and 107 to try and make poor man's pappy. As long as I can find those near SRP.

I work at a car dealership. The owner owns about 9 dealerships. The son basically runs them. Really great family. Anyways he has many high end bourbons. Including 4 different Pappy's. Was talking to the used car manager today about it. He's tried them all at the owner's house. Said only the 23 year was good. The rest didn't live up to the hype. But, given so much hype, you probably expect way too much given the going price.
Funny story, the owner comes over to the son's house and proceeds to make a whiskey and coke with Pappy's. Haha

I hate to say it but you have zero chance of finding those at SRP in your state. SC is one of the worst when it comes to Weller prices, in fact the single two most expensive instance of SR and A107 I’ve ever seen were in SC.

You would either have to majorly luck out in a controlled state, or go to one of the handful of non-controlled states where Weller seems to be oddly available at a reasonable price. Even then it’s usually only the SR. 12 and A107 will be at least ten times as scarce.

This one might be better with a couple drops of water in it or on the rocks.

Can't decide which I like better, the 10 yr, or the SiB. Both are fantastic. Which also reminds me. Wanted to ask @JoeySauce if he cracked one of those 13's yet?

I have a 10 year that I’ve never cracked, maybe in year 3 of my 8 year consumption plan for my idiotic over collection of bottles. Would be interested to blind compare with the single barrel.

I too would like to hear about the 13.

I had access to a whole case once in FL. I was an idiot not to buy one, even at the absurd price. Probably won’t ever see one again.
