Yes, recommend rust proofing. Like the others, I do my own Woolwax in the driveway, it's pretty easy just takes time. Winter washing I just take it through the auto-wash with the undercarriage spray and it works fine.

For those who don't have a shiny new 3rd gen but a gently used 2nd GeN BeSt GeN, what prep do you recommend before the woolwax/Fluid film applications?

I used a product (Freekin Expensive!!!) called PickleX-used it for steel storage back in the day. Deals with rust as well as creating a barrier. Then I used a different, but similar sealing product (Ams Oil Metal Protector spray.) Won't use it again-attracts WAY to much dust and dirt. I don't really dig the 1940 frame look (Oil and dirt coated three inches deep...) My 1932 fire truck is like that and will last forever, but what a PIA to work on!

I just wash and apply for the winter season. Then do any rust touch up painting in the spring

+1 to this. Pretty easy really. Just keep the dirt washed off ahead of time and it won't cake on inches thick.

I used woolwax. Not too bad. It eventually stops attracting dirt and mud. Granted, it stops because it becomes saturated in dirt and mud, and it physically becomes incapable of holding on to any more. :D

But it’s not thaaaat bad. Really, you cant even tell while you’re standing up. :homer: Only when you directly look at it, then I guess you can kinda tell

Usually, once I see that it’s no longer sticky, I recoat it. I have at least 2 gallons on it by this point, so I may have to redo my weight and balance.

And yes, it can be slightly more of a pain to work in, but in warm weather, it’s actually easy to wipe it off by using a dry paper towel, and wipe with a bit of hand pressure. At first I tried using Wd-40 to cut it, but it’s actually cleaner to do a dry wipe around the area you plan to work on. Every job is like an archeological dig!!!!

First of all, why wait for rust before going flatbed? Second, there was/is a guy in green bay I found through the woolwax website. He seemed to take pride in doing it right, and was asking 400 bucks. After my eyes stopped watering, I thought about the process he uses, and concluded I was willing to pay. Unfortunately, he needed it a full day to do it, and logistics didnt pan out. So I did it myself. No regerts!

Is that Woolwax on your spare tire? Do tires rust?

Funny story about that. I had the spare tire out and I left it in the front yard for a day or two and it turned brown. It looks like that oxidation the tires get sometimes. But now it matches everything else. :)

    Man, that's sweet!

I wonder how often people flash their brights at them for being blinded with those cheesy LED headlights! Or, am I seeing that wrong?

No I think you are correct, that was my first thought as well. I have an irrational desire to carry around a baseball bat and smash those things out when I see them. Reminds me of the old days when all the imports put in those blinding blue-coated bulbs with horrible cutoff because they looked cool or whatever.
