Well, it turned out great, right up until I accidentally damaged it. :frusty::frusty::facepalm: I will have to print a new one to test fit. I have family in town though so it will be a bit delayed. I should be able to test fit beginning of next week.

I totally relate to frustration with breakage of a print! I had a hinged box printed at work for an employee appreciation gift and accidentally dropped the lid when showing it to a coworker beaking one of the latches that hold it closed. :annoyed: Luckily I was able to fix it with super glue, but was frustrating not to be able to give out a perfect part.

Yup. This was ever more stupid. The previous prints were so strong I got cocky removing the supports and just tried ripping them off. Turns out that was a bad idea...

There must be a BIG difference in supports for a resin printer! The supports on FDM prints are barely attached and ripping them off is standard practice.

They are much more attached for resin. I will send you a picture of the new part still on supports when I make it. You can rip them off, you just need to flex the supports to snap them first. This time I just grabbed the part and ripped up without flexing the supports to break them. Like I said dumb mistake on my part.

Finally got it printed. It's drying now.

Here are some pictures of the supports. They need to be much more substantial to keep the print from warping before it's cured.

It pains me to see so much wasted resin. Not that you really have any control over that though. Maybe this is where a SLA printer would be the better option? At least for development.

Yes, that is a downside of SLA. You almost always have to print things at an angle, which results in wasted resin. If I has a slightly larger print volume, I could probably get away with printing this one flat one the plate, but it might sag too much in the pocket.

Even with that downside, I still prefer SLA to FDM.

It does. I have seen multiple futuristic sci-fi movies use legit SLA printers as props. Now if only they worked as smoothly as they show in those movies!

I think we have a final design. It's a tight fit side to side with a tiny amount of front to back play. The only gaps are the radius, and the taper. Both of these are hard to eyeball, and I'm not sure are worth messing with. Maybe another 1/8 on the radius, and 1/16 on the taper, but I think these would not be noticable if I wasn't looking explicitly for them, and it just as likely we would compensate too far and have to back off again.

The shorter height is definitely better looking, and it appears that there is still enough room to coil cable if needed.

I say V5 should be the final design!

All pictures are taken with the tray pushed as far to the left and back as it would go.
