air tags vs tile

Just got an air tag for my dog......have been using tile beforehand.

I thought one of the key advantages of air tags is that it leverages the network of iphones out there to locate your air tag.

Today i took an hour drive to drop off something somewhere - left the dog at my parents house.....i thought i would be able to locate my dog in real time.....but instead it shows her last location 60 mins ago @ my parents home...........which is basically the same exact thing tile does.....

Both my parents have iphones and such with tracking, locate and bluetooth on........am i missing something here?

i think you can set a perimeter location, so that if she travels out of a certain area, you will get notified if there is an iphone nearby to ping off of.

 

That’s what I like about air tags, it pings off other iphones in the vicinity and there’s an overwhelming amount of iPhones out there.

 

i got it to work as designed. guess i wasnt patient enough.....tks!
