Yep. They kept it quiet for a long time after the news of the initial find. Hard to make an ID off of just a foot. Most likely was walking off the boardwalk and slipped in. The pool it was found in averages 140* so totally plausible that he was boiled to death before he could climb out. Happened before, will happen again.

 

combination of the heat and the acidity - the water in those pools can be nasty stuff.
last summer a girl fell in after her dog ran away and she lunged to grab it. ended up with 2nd/3rd degree burns over most of her body after just a few seconds in the water. somehow survived but spent nearly a year in the hospital
about 6 years ago there was a college aged kid and his sister in the park - he was working for the summer and she was visiting. they decided to go swim in the pools at Norris in the middle of the night. went way off the boardwalk. he slipped and fell in. she couldn't pull him out and he ended up drowning right in front of her. she managed to walk back and find a ranger. they went out searching for his body at first light and because the area was so dangerous the rangers refused to go to the spot that the girl described for fear of their own lives. they ended up calling in a guy who is a professional drone pilot - does work for commercials and stuff, has all of the licenses - and he came down flew over the area and they could see the footprints the two had left, a small area along the edge of the pool that was scuffed up from the sister kneeling and trying to grab her brother but nothing else. his body was boiled and dissolved in a matter of hours. never found a trace of him. i was in the park when it happened, didn't know exactly what was going on at the time but they had the whole area closed for a couple of days. and a met the guy who flew the drone a few years ago
