I have an offroad (daily driver) with the stock tires (wranglers) that are on their last legs and looking for the next set. I live on the east coast and do mostly highway driving so looking for something that won’t kill gas mileage and won’t be too loud cruising. Most of my “off-roading” consists of bumpy dirt forests roads so definitely don’t need something too aggressive but would like something with a bit of tread. Also want something that’s going to be good in the snow. Realize there’s some contradictions in there but gotta have it all right?

Thinking about going with the wranglers again cuz they were solid for me, also have had the at3 4s recommended. Not against a slightly bigger tire either but probably not bigger than 32”. No lift currently but will probably add a leaf in the back at some point and stiffen up the front a little bit.

I’m rambling but throw your suggestions at me! Thanks in advance!

Edit: prob should have put this in the wheels and tire forum, not sure if a mod can move it or how that works

if you were happy with the wrangler's, get another set. otherwise, i would suggest the toyo at3 or yokohama geolander at.

There aren't any real downsides to moving up slightly to a 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 depending on whether you have 16" or 17" wheels. The overall dimensions of those are nearly identical and only about 1" taller than stock. They should easily fit with no modifications. I've been running 265/75/16's for years and have noted no loss of performance or fuel mileage. In a 16" tire that size is actually more common and usually cheaper than the stock size. Don't know about that size on a 17" wheel.

I currently have these on my truck. They are the most aggressive non LT tire I have found. They ride great on and off road, but they do make a little noise. They work for me on my 15 year old truck that isn't a daily driver, but might be more aggressive than you want.

Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain AT | Discount Tire

These are the default recommendation for a long lasting, smooth riding tire that is adequate for mild off roading. I have these on our 2wd Explorer and am happy with them. Can't say how they do in snow.

Rotating mass will get you with tires.
I like my Hankook DynaPro AT2 tires.

They are relatively light for an AT tire, but are still pretty rugged.
They aren’t loud and they are a copy of the AT/M.
Which I had previously, and got over 70k miles out of them.

If you like the wranglers I’d look for some new oem takeoffs, someone upgrading their tires right away. I’ve bought new 33s off Jeep guys for cheap cause they want 37s.
I’m running C load and get 19 or 20 mpg avg hwy, 17comb with a 51lb tire. Speed limits here are mostly 60mph.

Sounds like you're doing what I was doing with my last truck (NY guy here). I got Wildpeak AT's and was very happy with them but now they've increased significantly on price so I'm not sure what's going on my Tacoma.

I have Michelin Defender LTX M/S; two newer and two older - been looking for a week…

the honest answer is I should stick with what works for 70-80k miles, rides great, gets the job done, wears evenly, handles the weather…even took them on a rough rock ride to a fishing spot in the mountains - I worried I would puncture a tire but the Michelins handled it like a champ - & they are about to dry rot off and are 3k overdue to replace).

BUT I wanna look cool so I just pulled the plug on the same tires I had on the Tundra…Sumitomo Encounter AT.

I was leaning heavily toward Toyo ATIII’s…but ran across a review/recommendation and found Sumi’s on simpletire for $144 each. Went ahead and paid for the installation of $20 a tire at NTB (where they’ll ship).

If the Wranglers worked - get em again.

my buddy had Yokohamas and loved them.

if I could have found a deal on the Wrangler ATs I would have bought them…let’s be honest we all want KO2s but at $300 a tire not today…at least for me.

we have Duelers on my wife’s 4runner - work great for her.

destination ATs on my sons 3rd Gen - really like them and they’ve been flawless but he’s 22 and drives like a demon hence some “rounding” that I don’t like. He used to have an older F150 that we put General Grabbers on and we liked them a lot (the buddy that has the Geolanders had Grabbers but didn’t like them).

the sumitomos I had on my Tundra were load range E and they wore like iron and were flawless for me (not great in mud - I don’t mud but I back into old logging roads hunting/fishing)…on the Hwy they were quiet and great in rain or dry - good in snow but it’s the South so we get very little - not like CT (used to live in Westbrook and Torrington).

these are pics in SC - we’re from here so it’s a National Holiday when it snows! Ha!

I had the same priorities on new tires, went with Cooper AT3 4S in 265-75-16 on stock suspension. I have been very happy with them. Great on dry and wet pavement, gravel/ dirt roads and mild snow. Have 3MPSF rating, look great (in my opinion), and no noticeable difference in mpg. I would definitely buy these again, will likely do so if they continue to wear well over the next 45,000 miles.

These are the two I’m deciding between. Definitely going with the 265/75r16.

how’s the road noise on the toyos?

I've run these on tundras, 4runners and 2 tacos. My use case is just like your. Mostly city/highway driving. My offroad is also forest service roads and beaches. They're quieter than the stock goodyears, ride well over potholed NW streets, work well in the rain and last too long. They are heavily siped and do well for a non-dedicated-snowtire on moderate to light snow with compacted snow/ice. The hill I live on is 18% grade and I can easily stop and get started again in 10 inches of snow.

I also run the load-range E version on my class C RV and they wear like steel.
