So, I need some help. I have a 2008 Tacoma and I'm having issues with the 4wd. It goes into 4WD fine but whenever I try to take it out, it flashes at me. I can hear the actuator on the rear transfer case but I can't tell if its working or not. I took it off and it all seems fine to me. Also whenever I try to take it out of 4WD there is a clicking sound behind the glovebox in the cab. Any ideas?

This looks like a thread that will help a lot
Thank you. My breather hose was disconnected and I went trough some puddles so it’s most likely the transfer case shift motor. Also, to check those voltages can I take that plug out and use a multimeter? I’m somewhat new to all this. Thanks for the help

No everything has to be plugged in and powered up to check the voltages properly.
If it ends up being the transfer case actuator you may get lucky just taking it apart and cleaning it but if it's been wet inside for too long it will probably have to be replaced.

Oh ok, can you do that with a multimeter? Yeah I probably do need a new one

Yea if you can figure out how to hold your test leads and backprobe the connector with a suitable tool at the same time and make sure your set to volts DC. I have leads with banana jacks on the end so I can put a ground clip on one end and a backprobe on the other.
