Picked up my truck from the body shop after recently getting hit in a parking lot. He did excellent work and also took off the clear film that was starting to look atrocious on the white paint. Gave it a wash today and she’s ready to roll.

Those of you who use tire shine/dressing, what’s your go-to? I’ve tried several brands in both wipe on and spray foam but just haven’t had great results. It tends to dry up shortly after application and almost looks like I never even put any on. What are your suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Took off the AirDam and tried to add an OEM recovery hook to my Sport but one of the bolts it came with is mangled and I didn’t get the order into the parts department until a few minutes before closing so probably won’t get replacements till Tuesday.

Also got a lead on a set of used rubber floorboard mats in good condition so hope to get them tomorrow.

 

Yeah I mean I had that size at stock height but on stock trd sport wheels and no rub.

 

1. What brand clear film did you have?
2. Do you have any pics of when it looked atrocious?
3. How long was it on before it started to look bad?

I have a white truck and I’m investigating getting some XPEL PP Film at the moment. I’ve had great experience with it in the past but never on a white car so thanks in advance for any input.

I use Meguiar’s brand “endurance tire gel” wipe on gel with pretty good results. Before I apply the shine, I use a dremel with plastic brush attachment and really go to town on my sidewalls with some soap

Thanks for the tire gel suggestion. I do spray wheel and tire cleaner on the sidewalls and really clean them with a scrub brush before applying any tire shine. So in theory the tires don’t have any dirt on to prohibit the shine from staying, but obviously I’m missing something.

For your clear film questions:

I’m not sure of the brand, this is what was already put on the truck when I bought it new. I assume either the dealer or the regional Toyota distributor did it.

Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of it but dirt had made its way around the edges of the film and it was impossible to get out. On white it was very noticeable. The worst of it was around the rear wheels, but it was all pretty rough. The film had started to get a slight yellowish tint to it as well.

I first started noticing it around a year into ownership, and I’ve now had it almost 3.5 years. While the truck was in the body shop I wanted to go ahead and have it done by someone who’s a lot more experienced than me.

I’m not necessarily opposed to the idea of the clear film, but to me it’s not worth doing with how bad it had started to look, plus not being able to do anything about it other than removal. I hope this helps. Maybe you will have better luck than I did!

I like the Adams Graphene Tire Spray. Goes on easy and looks great. Not super oily nor shine but some gloss. Stays on during FL rainstorms as well.

 

Love the utilitarian look of those wheels. I had these on an LJ before I moved over to my Tacoma. It's funny how many people asked me where I got my steelies from. They look good on you Tacoma, a very subtle mod.
