A little oil leakage is better than anal leakage. Just sayin’.

Not here to convince anyone necessarily. Witnessing first hand how REDLINE smoothed out my Harley motor as opposed to Mobil 1, it's all I will ever use. Living in the desert southwest lowest NOACK is an important property for me.

Also a fellow DSMer! I no longer have one but last one I had was a 16g car pushing 32psi, 12.0 afr, 22-24* timing. Made over 400whp and tq with such a small fast turbo it was a blast on the street. Most that car.

I believe it. Had an Ecutek tuned 09 WRX, over at NASIOC and I-club.net Suburu forums, they hate on RP, so always feared using it.

Well I was convinced 10+ years ago on Red Line. I’ve seen owners change to their gear oil and never change again, but there’s people that will do that on regular 75W90

Does not mean the oil was the cause. I went to RedLine gear oil in my 85 PU, 6 months later the trans went bad. Stuck with RedLine for the rebuild, and 1 year later
it went bad. Got Marlin Crawler to rebuild it. Put RedLine in that trans, and It lasted over 15 more years.

First trans had 280k, 2nd was a poor rebuild, and the third was done correctly. oil had nothing to do with any of it.

First time running royal purple, 0w20 in my Tacoma, 75,000 miles, bone dry when I changed it 1000 miles ago from mobile1. It’s currently at the dealership awaiting diagnostic,

If you lost 6 1/2 quarts of oil in only 1000 miles, the issue isn’t the brand of oil. Something didn’t get tightened (drain plug or filter).

You can fill the engine with water and won't leak. Your problem has nothing to do with the type of oil used. Pretty much every 0W20 product (I've not found one that doesn't) meets the spec toyota calls out, which means they're all perfectly suitable for use in our engines. Using one over the other is not gaining anything. I use the least expensive oil that meets the necessary specifications for the engine I'm dealing with, change at appropriate intervals, and I haven't ever (and probably won't ever) have a failure due to the oil system.

Glad you squeezed this post in on a Friday.

But the brand of oil used here wasn't the problem, therefore it didn't cause the result you are going to hear.

I'm not defending RP. I have no reason to use any boutique brand oil. But the brand isn't why your dipstick was empty in 1k.

He was not saying it emptied out the oil. He was saying the truck has 75k miles on it and when he changed the oil 1k miles ago it was bone dry on the underside and now looking at the picture it is oily. Only a couple ounces of oil can make it look like that and it was after 1k miles on the oil change that it went from dry under there to oily.

With “bone dry” and “awaiting diagnostic” in there, it read like it was at Toyota because it was fucked. I see what he means now.

Removed some stuff, added some stuff.
I have been using Castrol Edge in both my Taco and the wife’s Jetta since the free oil service period ended on them. Never had an issue with either accept the time I didn’t tighten the drain plug on the VW completely and after it was warmed up started puking oil. Tightened it up and never had an issue since. All user error.

I'll go with your explanation. Thanks.

    Dealer analysis should be interesting.

We ran rp in our 358 cu in modified stock car engines. It was worth several more hp.

The problem with Royal Purple is the purple dye becomes a phase-dynamic molecular catalyst, anytime the engine exceeds 5000RPM. This is due to the polymeric shear force disrupting the nano-covalent bonds in the purple dye, leading to creation of double-bonded free radicals with no inherent charge. These neutrally charged radicals create an alkali amine-based sub-fluid that hardens the surfaces of your engine gaskets leading to leaking and ultimately, oil starvation and death of the engine.

I use Royal Purple, but filter out the dye using a heated ceramic matrix. This eliminates the hazard, while maintaining the slickness our engines crave.
