Pretty sure you're being facetious, but actually Edge 0w40 is slightly thicker than a thick Xw30 and has excellent cold start flow soooo yea :D

Don't overthink this. Change the oil and filter somewhere between 5000-10,000 miles with the suggested weight. Which brand doesn't matter much. But I am a firm believer in synthetic. I've been using 5W30 from Costco. I used to get 10 quarts for $25. Last I bought was $35. I pick up a filter from Walmart, usually Fram.

I did 10,000-mile oil changes which worked out to about once every 6 months for the 1st 9 years/180,000 miles. Now that I don't drive it as much, I still change every 6 months. That usually works out to once every 5000-7000 miles. I'm at 230,000 and the truck still runs like new and I've never added a drop of oil between oil changes.

If you want to change more often then have at it.

It’s more important that you correctly drain the oil (some on this forum have accidentally drained the auto tranny) and check the oil level on the dipstick after filling the engine with oil. You can’t go wrong using any oil that meets the requirements listed in the owners manual.

Mobil 1 and OEM filter is what I've done. Currently at 235,000+ miles.

6 Months or 5,000 miles whichever comes first.

The OEM oil is just Mobil1 oil which is where Toyota get their oil from. All the Toyotas that ask for genuine Toyota 5w30 is just Mobil1 conventional. Just go pick an oil brand you like and go with it. People will say they vouch for certain brands but never will you find a final verdict on what is best.

in my opinion. i used to run mobil 1. then i did my own research and sent in oil analysis and found amsoil to be the better brand. then just switched over to penzzoil platinum ultra. not the regular penzzoil. amsoil was starting to get a bit pricey especially when doing all 3 of my vehicles.

then i saw project farm did the same tests and just just backed up what i found. so i been sticking with it

Not much, just floorpads and mud guards.
I have been using Mobile 1 for several years and plan on staying with it. As far as the oil filter goes there might be some filters out there that are pretty good but I will stay with the OEM that I get at Toyota, not some off brand that claims to be OEM. I really think Tacoma owners need to understand that changing the oil at the suggested time intervals is is just as important as the miles.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TevK-u3vkx4&list=PL7ATsQZJkqWgcz_5zS4LLmGIGBgI5B4vY&index=2

Search function can work wonders. :D

Been changing mine with various full synthetic, high mileage oil every 6-8k mi. Brand usually depends what is on the shelf when I need it. Have used Valvoline, Castrol, Mobil1, Costco’s/Kirkland, and Pennzoil. Typically 5w30 with OEM D3 filters. Put 0w20 in a couple weeks ago for the colder winter ahead. Will be changing with 5w30 at next change.

As many have said, use the right viscosity for your truck and area and keep up with the changes on time.

I've cruised through a lot of oil treads on TW, but this is the 1st I've seen reference to the oil pickup. I'd be curious to see some pictures of the pickup of a well maintained engine after 200k miles. It never crossed my mind to clean it and I'm curious to see what it looks like after 200k miles and regular oil changes. Do you have any pics?

    FFS.

“conventional” labeled oil has been a syn-blend for YEARS. All manufacturers.

Most “synthetics” are predominantly groupIII hydrocracked oils anyway.

use any modern gf6 5w30. And change at the manufacturer recommended interval.
