Any roof top cargo boxes (hard shell) that fit directly onto the OEM rack? deployed crossbars too far apart. Searched TW to no avail, and looked at the specs of the major brands of boxes. I don't really want after market cross bars on top of the stowed OEM bars.

I dont have the OEM bars. Whats the distance between? I have a Thule box that accepts a pretty wide range

blows my mind that no one seems to make a box that fits the oem rack directly. there's gotta be someone. even if its some no name brand.

I was pretty shocked when you told me 43". I've been holding out to mount my box on a tonneau w/ rack but figured I could buy a OEM roof rack if all else failed. Guess not

so i am not exactly sure how to measure it. i assumed it should be measured on center like studs in a wall. which was 43". if for some reason the measurement should be inside edges, it would be a couple inches less.

Apparently i am the first one to talk to my local toyota dealer about it. i called them to ask if they had a recommendation. dude was like..."what do you mean you cant find a box that fits. most of them are adjustable". he had no idea. said i was the first person that ever mentioned it to him.

I have my box in a storage shed. Currently it dark when I get home. I'll try and pull it out and measure it better between Thursday-Sun when I'm off work

I was just able to get my Yakima Sky Box 12 on the OEM bars this weekend. It was tight and the clamps were maxed out on the box. But it held on for a weekend trip.

that's great news. thanks for posting that...very helpful! the specs say 42" max width, so i guess there's enough wiggle room in there to get it onto the 43" bars.

My Yakima box wouldn't fit the stock rack so I drilled holes and used U-bolts temporarily. This made me realize how lame and useless the stock rack is and I soon after found a deal on a Prinsu and upgraded to that. I hate that now I look like every other broverlander with a Tacoma and a Prinsu but at least I have a more compatible rack now.

any chance you have a picture of it on the truck? Just curious if looks silly with that much overhang. Might not care even if it did. Beggers/choosers.

Yeah, not sure where the 42" is measured from Yakima, but it fit. The space between the bars and the roof was also a bit tight.

Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures. I didn't think it looked bad. And I already took it off to be able to get the it back into the garage, sorry. This was a unique case where I don't have a cover over the bed and we needed some waterproof storage for the weekend and the cab was full of people. Not sure when I will get it on there again.
