You'd need to get the oil analyzed every year to check for chemical degradation (acidify, water/gasoline contamination) which can't be filtered, not worth the trouble for passenger vehicles IMO.

yeah agreed but we have these guys who know better than Toyota and are doing oil changes at 5k…that’s a $10k savings!

Tough to look back with a 53'er... did you extend the backup camera? Low bed? Seacan carrier? Or just a van body? What Cummins, ISX? Need more details. Did you mount the 5th wheel directly to the box or are you doing a dolly?

fifty threes and a Cummins swap! That a lot of work to get rid of the plastic oil filter housing.

Noice. I bought the TRD Sport because the skewp should give me enough room to drop a 13L Detroit Diesel. I'd have it done already but I'm having trouble finding a locking gas cap for the wider, diesel sized fuel filler neck.

I imagine that most of us will be ready for a new truck long before a million miles. We get tired of the old banged-up stuff and want new. Having said that, I have known people that drive more than 100k miles a year in small cars and pick-ups.

I have a motor home with a Cummins M-11. If I did LOTS of travel, I would consider a bypass system. I have great respect for what Adept Ape says. As it is, I extend the change interval with oil analysis. It may not make financial sense for a car or pickup, but the M-11 uses a $40 oil filter and ten gallons of oil.

30 years ago I went to a test facility to check on progress of a 4wd hydraulic system that was being endurance tested. We rented time on their various test benches.
Anyway, in another part of the facility I saw two Chevrolet 4.3L v6 engines being endurance tested. I noticed a bypass system on their filtration. I talked to the tech and he said that currently they had an equivalent of a half million miles with no oil change, just filters. They were going for the equivalent of a million miles before being torn down and inspected.
Now you see why I roll my eyes on the 3K and 5K oil change threads lol. I change every 10K just for the filter change which is most important.
On another note, it seems we are fixated on a million something. Right now, we have a pump and valve on test at a major OEM off highway equipment manufacturer. Duration? You guessed it, a million cycle test! It takes about four months 24/7 to get there.

Changing one's oil/filter is the single easiest and most important thing you can do to maintain you vehicle. Don't get caught up trying to justify lazy and cheap.
