I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma truck. I was checking the rear brakes and I noticed the left rear lining at the bottom of the brake shoe was thinner than at the top. What causes this. I thought that it would be the same thickness at both ends.

That's normal, the leading edge of the shoe will wear faster than the trailing edge. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rear-drum-brake-pads-uneven-wear.657590/

Hymm, just changed my shoes with about 120K and they were pretty evenly worn out. The bottoms are affected by the parking brake more than the top, so I’m thinking maybe the parking brake was left engaged a few times. I should add, I have 2nd gen Taco.

I replaced my shoes about a year ago.....with some $29 bendix ones from napa...

6 months in I noticed similar uneven wear......leading edge.

.....so when I later put together another order from Mcgeorge I made sure to get a set of the oem's.

When I installed these....I carefully made sure to clean and grease where the shoes slide on that dust shield.....and made sure the star adjuster was cleaned and regreased......
