    A few.
Toyota has been running this commercial in my area lately. Has an old Toyota pickup frpm the early 90s. Sounds like maybe the truck was given to a daughter from her father who passed on.

I like the one where the kid is riding around with his dad in a 55. Then he grows up and buys the new Tundra. :duh:

The truck (HiLux) in the commercial is almost exactly like my '90 Truck, except mine is Inca Red Metallic, Rather than the pure red - even has the same body decals!

haven't seen that one on TV but agree, those were great trucks and contributed to the reliability reputation Toyota had.

I still kind of miss Nissan's old campaign where Mr.K would mug at the camera and say "Dogs Like Trucks."

25 years later, that's the car commercial I still remember.

I had a similar blue one with the 3.0 gutless v6. Truck itself was sound if it actually had a real engine.

I’ve been seeing that ad for a few weeks in our area, makes me miss my old truck.
I remember a buddy commenting the the truck had pretty good power for a four cylinder, at which point I told him it was a six. I don’t think ever got any speeding tickets in that truck.

Realistically, that era was Toyota’s worst for trucks with the infamous 3.slow… Gas milage of a V8, power of a 4 banger, and lots of blown head gaskets. The ‘80s and early ‘90s trucks with the 22REs were still awesome, but it wasn’t until the 1st gen Tacoma with the 3.4, that Toyota finally got it right with a V6 that was an actual improvement over the 22RE with equal reliability..

I had a ‘92 22re. I worked that engine like a commercial lawnmower. Heck, I pulled a 10k lb sailboat 3 miles down the frontage road once. Took 4lo to get moving and I kept it at 20mph but we got there.

With the manual, it would do about 75 with a tailwind. 65 into the wind. It was small, underpowered, reliable, and exactly what I needed in my college years.

I gotta' disagree. My 22R and 22Re had serious low end grunt.

I was fortunate that my 3.0 was among the last manufactured with asbestos head gaskets, so no issues there, but when I blew a remote oil filter hose, and turned it into a 400 pound paperweight, I replaced it with an '02 Taco 3.4. What a world of difference!! Better power, better milage and better drivability - what's not to like?

Only in your dreams. My 86 22re needed a tow truck to help it get out of its own way.
