Disclaimer: this is on my new 4runner but the engine is identical to the tacomas and you guys are much more helpful than anywhere else.

When first idling, it feels like it wants to shut off and runs really rough, which lasts about 20 minutes into driving. I just replaced the fuel filter, and also took off the throttle body to clean it. I accidentally hosed down the MAF sensor when I was cleaning the air intake outside of the vehicle. I have no trouble codes, at least not as of right now.

I hear the air intake control valve is a common culprit of a rough idle, but I don't want to start throwing parts at it just yet.

One problem is, I didn't really drive the 4runner since owning it prior to this, so I'm not sure if this is a new issue or not.

Is there anything I can check myself before taking it to the shop?
