I don't know if @Buttskevin21 will answer, but it might be in his thread:
    Bootyfab | Tacoma World
He seems to be a fabricator, and, in his case, he could mount that air compressor in any manner of ways.

I can dm you some photos sometime next week! Used basic flat stock from the hardware store for a bracket and drilled a couple holes in the compressor base. Probably took me an hour or so to do.

Great write up! Thank you. Saw a gen 2 do this and wanted to do it on my truck for the same reasons. I get so much crap in my air cleaner box. Just writing to see if there are any updates?? What does it sound like? Does the cowling provide enough air flow? Any issues with water getting in there? My concern is that it is upward facing so rain/washing could dump water into the intake. Anyone know if this would void a powertrain warranty? I still have about 75k miles on mine.

    Just found this...

    Noise does increase *slightly*

As far as water, I live at the base of the Sierra Nevada's, stones throw to Lake Tahoe. No issues with water whatsoever. The intake itself is about an inch above the base of the cowl which has its own drains, then inside the airbox there is another small drain. I get crazy downpours and standing snow all over the cowl.

I am bad at threads and new to posting on this site! Disregard before some ruins me for being the guy who asks the already answered question!!!

"hOw bIg cAn mY tIrEs bE?!?!" lol

I’m getting ready to do this over the weekend. Finished up moving my compressor, etc. Keep in mind I haven’t pulled off the cowl so there might be some ducting I’m not
aware of, but has anyone cut the intake holes bigger? What’s there isn’t much and was only designed for the HVAC system.

I’m thinking of either cutting the blue or going even bigger and cutting the green. Then replace with some sort of metal screen. The green would have a bend along the dotted line.

    Waste of time?

I would say you are risking getting more rain in the cabin fan that way, as the opening is right where you going to expand it. Had this cowl for over a year, no loss of power etc. don’t think cutting it bigger is needed. :notsure:

Nicee, I've been looking into doing something more than just some diy liners. Now I'm kinda tore between this and a version of the reroute I saw on the build threads, that option is not good for those crossing deeper streams/rivers but if the water is already up to the bottom of the doors its a no for me anyway but its making me like this cowl option more.

Ah okay. Figured there might be something under there. Worth a shot.

    Thanks.

Finished mine. Not that anyone needs more pics of this, but as a warning. A lot of the parts in OP’s post aren’t available anymore so I had to look for alternatives.

First the tube mount. Went with plastic as that’s all I could find. Same company. Works fine. These arrived gray. Whatever. You can’t see them.

Spectre Performance SPE-8148 8148 Air Duct Mounting Plate https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BPUTL4

Next the connectors for the tube to the adapters. Again, not available. I used these. Figured being hump style and silicone they’d be better.

Ucreative 4'' Length Hump Black Silicone High Temperature 4-ply Reinforced Straight Hump Coupler Hose (3.0" (76mm)) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08YZ1TXGH

Do not use these. Try to find something like OP used that are really flexible and shorter. I ended up with a huge elevation and side to side difference (yes my engine is dirty - I live in CA and if I washed that in my driveway I’d probably first get drawn and quartered and then my dead body arrested).

    F769A810-241C-4E1E-824E-8AC2D1FEB90C.jpg

I eventually got it to work but the airbox isn’t mounted to anything. It’s just floating a couple inches from the wheel well. I’ll eventually get rid of those and build a new mount. Should be okay for now.

    D37FA060-7D98-40B3-808F-C7BF080CCEF2.jpg

And to anyone that has the idea to open up the cowl for more air flow, you can’t. At least not much. There is a little curtain thing that protects the fan intake. This blocks any opening up room.

Ok, have to ask something unrelated... What are the green and white wires for? Also, it appears you have changed out the hose that leaves the air cleaner to the engine with something that I do not have on my stock truck. Or maybe that is just a change from your 2016 to my 2021.

Green and white wire is for a driving light. I removed all of the aftermarket wiring to start over but missed that one.

And yep. I have a different aftermarket intake hose. Doesn’t really do much except clean up the engine bay a bit. Maybe more noise.

Recently did this mod trying to use a 12" long piece of silicone intake pipe, figured it'd keep the air relatively cool coming in and look sick, ran into the exact same issue as @erok81 :bananadead: my air box is currently floating since the angle you'd need is way more steep than I was accounting for (this is what I get for not reading I guess lol), still can't find the couplers op used BUT this just came in the mail and looks promising, I'll post an update when I get it installed

Nice. That’ll work better. I fixed my floating issue too. Accidentally removed the wheel well and mounted it off of the coilover.

Nope, we've gotten snow 2 or 3 times since I've done this and I haven't noticed anything negative. As long as you're adding air flow through the side

Your method is a lot easier though. Once you get it installed let me know it is. Mine is still kind of jammed in there too tight.

I’ve found sticks and pine needles in my intake box after the mod.
