I need to get some that stuff before there are shortages on it because of rampant gas theft around here.

Do homeless/drug users really go around with buckets selling stolen gas? Bikes and what not sure. But gas seems like an odd one. Also who the hell buys stolen gas?

Zipties are the same plastic as tanks, i think its ptfe? I have used those as a base material for patches on tanks when they have been drilled.

I don't even think the homless or drug users are the people committing these kinds of crimes. Gas theft and cat theft. Do some thieves use drugs? of course they do. I don't think your typical drug addict has to resort to stealing gas or cats. There are so many easier, and more lucrative crimes for them to commit even theft. Like shop lifting no assembly required.

Nobody wants to work anymore, including theives. I don't hear of that much gas or cat theft in my area. I'm sure it happens, it was happening twenty years ago. I think the addicts have so many easier options, and resources available to them that they just do need to work that hard.

Radiator shops can fix these professionally. Get it fixed properly. The gas tanks are heavily back ordered

You said its 3/8. Get a 3/8 oak dowel , and stuff it in. It'll swell up and be water tight it a short time. And hit the road and get her home.

Have you talked to your insurance company?

Let them send a rollback to pick up your truck and tow it somewhere. They can pay the storage fee while it sits waiting to have a new tank installed. They can pay for your rental in the meantime.

Portland area is a total dump, I can’t WAIT to get out of the PNW. I’ve patched more than a dozen tanks in the last 6 months. As mentioned above, a tapered wooden dowel is what I have used on all of the plastic tanks. Slam it in, break it off. I’d keep an extra one handy if you have to drive all the way back to LA.

Easy solution is to put a fumoto valve in the hole, then they wont have to drill a new hole when they do it again and wont spill all your gas out when their gas can only holds 5 gallons.

Portland - be thankful it was just your fuel and not your truck. Tweakers/Druggies there making Detroit car theft numbers in the dust since the whole legislative anti-police initiative related to non-violent crimes.
