    Hello,

I’ve had this noise for quite some time now and do not know where it’s coming from. At this point I believe it’s somewhere beneath the driver side. The only thing I’ve done so far to try and fix it is to change out the belt but it didn’t do anything. It’s lifted with bilstein suspension and regeared rear differential if that matters.

I cannot duplicate the noise when I shake the truck when it’s still. It only happens when I drive slowly, that’s when I really hear it and then it fades away.

    thank you.

    Oh look, another mod....

That kind of sounds like the rear brakes or e-brake is still engaged. It def sounds like metal to metal contact, which always points me towards the brakes. Check your rear drums.

defiantly start with the brakes, and anything else that is rotating, like driveline components.

I'd definitely start with brakes. Put it on jack stands, and spin one wheel at a time by hand and see if you can locate which wheel the noise is coming from. Then fix or move to other components accordingly.

Does the sound increase in conjunction to speed or rpms? Does it stop or worsen when applying brakes? Does it do it while parked/neutral and giving throttle, or only when the vehicle is moving?

It sounds like an idler to me.

Edit, the sound doesn't seem to start until you are moving. Make sure there is nothing hitting your drive shaft. Just doesn't sound quite like the normal brake squeek.

Sorry, I forgot to note that I had gotten my rear drums replaced about a month ago.

I've gotten it replaced a month ago.

I haven't checked it in a while, will give it a look though!

Yeah, the sound increases when I speed up but then fades away around 40mph+. I can mostly hear it from a stop and moving up in speed. It stops when applying brakes, only hearing it when the vehicle is in motion. No noise at all when neutral and giving it throttle.

I think you just confirmed its brake related. Jack it up, spin each tire, and find the culprit. If you're unable or just prefer someone else more mechanically inclined work on it, give the shop that did your drums a call and let them know this started shortly after their work. Seems like most fingers point back to that anyways.

This was happening before I got my drums replaced. The only reason I got it changed out because I thought it was the belt at first and the service advisor said the rears were wearing out so I had gotten that changed alongside the belt. I just haven't done the front brakes yet. No noise change or difference after replacing both the belt and drums.

Well scratch that then; I'd still jack it up and try to isolate if it is evident in one wheel somewhere.

If it somehow was the idler, I would obviously hear it when it's stationary correct?

And yeah, I've had brake squeaks before but this is totally different from it but I'll give a good look near the driveshaft tommorow. thank you for the suggestion.

i think you have something stuck between your rotor and caliper. i had similar noise when a rock got jammed in there. if it was on the belt drive system you would hear it when you aren't moving. also possible the pad springs somehow got bent up and is contacting the rotor.

It’s the piston return spring. No question about it.
