My grandfather told me the rule when I was a kid, he said "just remember if you have to sleep in a tent with your buddy, the rule is.... pole-to-pole or hole-to-hole.... but never pole-to-hole"

Survival makes for strange bedfellows. I spent 1/2 a night waiting for moonrise to finish the descent after climbing Arrowhead Arrette(not the spire) and having night catch up to us with one rappel still left. We emptied the rucksack and stuffed his legs(he only wore shorts that day)into it and spooned shivering until 4 am when the moon rose high enough to find the last rappel anchor and make our way down. It was cold enough that there were no poles around to matter.

Are there any shops in San Jose or Santa Cruz/Monterey area that sells big gauge copper wire?

I’m moving my battery and need 25’ of 1/0 red and 10-15 4g black and red. I was going to get from Amazon but pure copper from there is around 200 bucks. I think if I buy welding wire, at least google says so, it seems to be a lot cheaper. I found a random wire website that confirms it’s cheaper but would rather go somewhere to get it.

There must be some welding supply shops around but its hard to tell if their supply is any better than digital source. Retail markup in CA is unpredictable.

I've gotten nice quality wire from this shop, WindyNation on Amazon but they also sell direct on their shop. There are probably others too. I recall a shop I once looked at that made custom length cables somewhere in middle america that were with lugz cut to length for similar price to buying cable but I can't find it now. Probably other options around. - https://windynationstore.com/products/1-0-gauge-black-red-welding-cable?variant=42620821143774

Did you try Home Depot? Lowes?

Grainger (branches in San Jose and Salinas) has all of it but won't be available for pickup at either branch (or any in the Bay Area) until Thursday, 12/1.

I might try them directly. Good thing about them is I get it in shorter lengths instead of everything at 25’. For all of the cable I need they are the same price as just the 1/0 on Amazon.

I might stop here for some of the random stuff I need instead of planning it all through Amazon and risking getting garbage. :)

Home Depot and Lowe’s I’ve never seen wire that size (granted I’ve never looked though) so I didn’t bother even checking them.

Grainger looks super pricey but worth checking out.

    Thanks everyone. :D

FWIW, I ordered their (EWCS) 2 gauge 15' black/red combo back in June 2021. Still the same price and decent quality cable.

They also have the 1/0 you're looking for as well. Out of stock on the 25' but they do have the red in 20'

Oh that’s not bad either and 20 should fine. Added to massive Amazon list. :spending:

Snowed about 1"/hr yesterday, total snowfall around a foot up here at Dorrington/Boards Crossing (~5k feet).
