Driversode upstream O2 change

    Hello,

    I have heard that the upstream O2 sensor on the driverside can be a little pain to access and change.

    Any tips or tricks to it that might help?

    (2016, extended cap 4x4 OR)

    Change one yesterday, did it all from the top.

    Used a stubby o2 sensor with a universal wobble on it and 2 long extensions.

    If you need, you can remove the inner fender liner and get your hand in on it, but the ratchet won't work due to the coiled brake line.

    If its seized and starts to round, stop, cut the wire and use a regular deep 22mm socket.

    Thank you. I'll check it out once the sensor arrives. I'm going to soak it with some penetration spray before, hopefully it helps loosen things up

    In my experience (learned long before I owned my own set of torches), soaking them more than once with WD40 the day before and letting them soak overnight works wonders. Even better, completely soak a small rag with WD40 and tie it around the O2 sensor and let it sit overnight...

    Found making a mix of acetone, and marvel mystery oil works better than most liquid wrench or pb blaster products,

    I replaced the driver side up stream sensor and an still getting the same code.

    I assume I'm should replace the drive side down stream next?

    Your code should have directed you to the exact o2 sensor to replace. At any rate its not a bad idea to replace all of them at the same time if over 75k miles....chance are you'll get better fuel economy.

    The code just said system to lean. When I looked it up further it seems it was bank 2, which I understand is driver side.

    Lean can be a few things, its only bank 2 so it was possible it was an AF sensor, the downstream o2 sensor has no control over lean condition.

    Quick checks for vacuum leaks is next, but you'll need to diagnose it with a scan tool and some experience.

    I already replaced the upstream sensor so it might a a air leak huh... Well crap.... That should be fun to find....

    Sorry, I was re-affirming your decision to replace the upstream. It made sense.

    Air leaks is possible, or failing injectors/bad fuel pressure etc. It can be hard to find.

    Sometimes purge valves can leak and cause lean or rich.

    I have heard that the freeze frame data can help... Next time it goes off I'll screen shot the info and post it. Can the dealer get more info off their scanners then a simple app? I use OBD Fusion

    Both banks are lean, very lean.

    Not sure why it’s not calling bank 1 p0171 as well.

    this could be fuel pressure, maf, vacuum, purge valve, etc.
    You want the fuel trim below 10% long term.
