I've been researching the hell out of the Tacoma. and have based on my needs the prerunner is the tacoma I'd like with the 2.7l, MT, access cab w/traction control. going to be retiring soon and would love to just wander around the states enjoying the beauty, fishing, camping, and crashing on friends and families couches in between. one of the options I got to have is the traction control in lieu of a 4wd. from what I can tell so far is that it's standard with the prerunner trim? I'm not sure if that's true or not. other interests would be the TRD pkg but it only comes with the 6 cyl? .
would love to hear your opinions, advice on the matter

BTW: I currently live in Portland, Ore, a could place to start exploring

    Welcome to TW!!

A 2.7 should be good for a million miles LoL Ima sure others will steer you in right direction. Either way, no disappointments!

few things to consider if you haven't:
how likely is it you will have more than 1 passenger for extended drives?
how adventurous are you, will you be driving in bad weather / terrain where 4x4 could save you some grief?
are you going to spend money upgrading anything like tires? sound system? camping unit?

if i were to buy again id probably go double cab long bed, or even tundra or something fuel efficient.
    - 4x4 i think is essential. 2wd should be illegal in some of the places we go to.
    - double cab because of passengers, even once in a while.
    - long bed because of camping ease.
    - tundra or something else because gas prices and long miles are a factor now. im also worried up here in canada our ****ed up prime minister will simply decide to outlaw non-hybrids on a whim

in the end there is no wrong choice! thats why it is so hard to decide.

Welcome! nobra25 sounds like a much better name than nobra87.

FWIW, if engine longevity is your goal, you are choosing between two great engines. If mpg is your goal, it's all about weight and speed.
If simple, diy maintenance and saving some $ on the front end is your goal, the 4 cylinder is great.
Keep in mind that you don't find many people who drive the v6 who wish they had gone with the 4. A few, but not many.
