What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

So, Im no expert in this field since my truck is not lifted so hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in. But from my understanding, lift will not always help with rub because when the suspension is fully compressed the wheel will still be in the same place in the wheel well. So you'd still have to trim/bend the fender liner in the same places.

Having said that I'd go tires first, a larger true AT tire is such a huge improvement over what comes on the truck stock, especially in the snow and off-road.

 

Finally added a console pad. Probably never notice until tee shirt weather gets here thou.

Partway through installing SDHQ mount with X2O winch from smittybilt

 

Picked up this used Bestop - glad I talked the seller down, it needed new tailgate bar brackets - which may have been why he sold it in the first place - these tops don’t fit right unless you have the 3rd Gen tailgate brackets.

Also new wheels/tires. I love the way Method wheels look but every Tacoma I see has them. I decided to go with a completely different look with the Nomad Convoy wheels (17”) with BFG KO2 (285/70/17) which I picked up used with only 50 miles on them from Discount Tire. I guess Jeep owners take these tires off right after purchase?

Two months in and I'm still trying to build up the virtual sense of where the bumper is in front. That big ass scoop doesn't help. I put the front camera back on "Auto," which helps with parking...but as soon as you get under 5 mph it turns on. Don't really care so much to have it on while sitting at a red light, but the alternative is to turn Auto back off and manually push the button when parking, and I'm too lazy to do that. Plus, this way I have one more thing to bitch and complain about.

That is pretty cool. Just don't rob any banks or run anyone off the road as it makes your plate really easy to read.

Only the rear plate for now. I haven't figured out how to cleanly run the wiring for the front yet.

Yeah, I thought that would be the case, but then I see so many with smoked plate covers here... If you can have covers that makes your plates barely legible, then why not a cover that does the opposite.

Pretty sure there is laws for it, but it is also rarely, if ever, enforced.

I already have a personal vanity plate, so hiding wasn't in the plan. Might change the plate to something else though.

Also is this MrMobile the YouTube channel? Lol


Back in Japan, I had these awesome illuminated license plates, which lit up the whole character.

Wish something like this was legal here.

Fellas, it was a doozie of a day.



Today I installed some seat heaters I purchased from a fellow member. I'm officially a member of the warm ass for winter club.




The pads themselves went a lot more quickly than I thought. Turns out it's fairly easy when the covers are already installed.




My plan was to relocate some switches to the overhead to clear some space. I acquired a reasonable 3d print off of Etsy. Only tricky part was moving my lucky fortune to make room.




Actual tear down of the dash. Note to self- don't forget to remove the coin holder before pulling the console.
I think I found them all. I hope.



Now the hard soldering begins. Two connectors snipped and moved upstairs thanks to a 6-core cable. I figure the switches can tap into the illumination circuit that's already up there, so no need to move those two wires.




Lower dash switches relocated.






New switches placed in lower dash.





And, holy crap, it works. I can't believe everything works.

 

I have already had a minor collision in a parking lot due to not being able to see over the hood / judge that distance well.

 

When I sold my 2nd gen I kept the Bestop and installed it on my 3rd gen, not perfect but it does the job and fits nice and tight

 

I have the brackets to make it fit your 3rd Gen…Bestop screwed up and sent me (5) of each side!
