I was looking at doing something like Redline LED lights on my tailgate. Then I thought: "how about reflective tape?" Or even a combination of both. I did a search but didn't find anything.

I switched all of the ropes & webbing on my back packing gear ages ago with reflective material so I wouldn't trip over lines and could find stuff in the dark.

Does anyone use reflective tape on their rigs? I can think of a lot of applications. Maybe its a dumb idea...

    [EDIT]
    Maybe its been done...

    Did a little legal homework:

In the US, there are several caveats:
    1. You are forbidden to show red from the front of the vehicle or white from the rear; amber is permitted on all sides
    2. You are forbidden to cover any reflective areas which are standard features by the manufacturer (such as taillights)
    3. You are forbidden to obstruct the driver's visibility, which includes all windows and mirrors (jurisdictions vary as to what amounts and/or locations constitute violation, so it's best to just avoid putting reflective tape on glass)
So long as you remain in compliance with these guidelines, you could cover the whole car with reflective tape if you felt like it.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
This is for the most part accurate, but not fully accurate for every state. Check your state’s laws to be sure.

a lot of agencies don’t enforce it even when it’s wrong either.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
I have always put reflective tape, at least a small square, in door jambs and on back of door so that it reflects when door is open. Also sometime use it inside hood to show if it is open.

Had some neon yellow tape at one time that reflected really bright with even slightest light on it. Not all reflective tape is created equal in its ability to reflect well.
